Yorkie Talker | Help with tips for getting Puppy to sleep through the night?! Hey everyone. I need some tips to get my puppy to sleep through the night. The problem is I live in a apartment with very thin walls so I can't let her cry it out. The first night she didnt make one sound the second she cried once and I let her out of her crate and she slept with me on the couch. The third night she cried even more and last night it was constant. It just keeps getting worse and worse. I think I made a big mistake letting her out and sleeping with her on the couch because now she knows she can cry and ill just go in, let her out and sleep with her. I don't know what to do! She has a toy a blanket and a weewee pad in her crate she there should be no reason for her to come out. Anyone have any ideas!? Thanks! |

| Yorkies are very smart! Now your pups know that if she cries, she can sleep with you What is done is done, now we have to find a solution. How old is your pup? Is her crate in your room next to your bed? If it's not, put it next to your bed so that she can see you when she is sleeping. Have you tried something else besides letting her sleep next to you on the couch? Puppies and Yorkies (young and old) always will want to be on your side, for them there is always a reason to be next to you

| Awww, so sorry she can't sleep with you every night. They love that! I lasted about 2 weeks with Lexi sleeping in her crate. She was so small I thought I'd smush her. I put her crate on an ottoman right next to, actually touching, my bed. When she woke up crying I'd lay my head against the crate so she felt like she was in the bed with me. She'd lay down immediately and go to sleep. I don't think they're happy being separated from us.

| Is there a reason you don't want her to sleep with you? I love having Zoey laying next to me. Such a cuddle bug. Now, if you don't want her in your bed then maybe you can get a small soft sided carrier and put the carrier on the bed next to you. Hope this helps.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Is she in her cage when you leave for work? I would imagine so, right. So can you imagine what she does when you are not home. She is probably crying and barking all of the time. So, in order to get her use to her cage you will need to work with her during times when you are home every chance you get. During naps and after potty breaks things like that in order to train her to like her cage hat it is not a bad place but more of her safe place to go when she is tired. If she falls asleep on you or in a doggy bed, anywhere pick her up and take her to her cage. Her cage should be in the same room as you and other people are so that she has full view of you. At night I would suggest putting her cage right next to your bed so that you can hear her and calm her down and here her cried when it is potty time. At her age pups usually need to potty once or twice a night so she cries when she needs to go potty. .

| Ear mites can be taken care of with one treatment to the vet. When my Gina had surgery on her leg I put a harness on her and leashed her to the headboard so she could not jump off the bed. You just have to make sure that the leash is short enough that she can't get to the side and fall off.

| Ours always sleep on the bed with us. They sleep very well at night that way. I usually have to take them out once during the night, but they go right back to sleep when we come back in and get back into bed.

| I struggled with this for a long time. I still do some nights! She is 8 months old. I have to have her in her crate on a table that is legit right against my bed. It always has to be me next to her. If its my boyfriend she wont stop crying. Sometimes I have to put my hand in the side of the crate so she can feel it then will lay down. If I put her crate on the floor in my room or not next to me she will cry all night. They just like to be near you all the time. Maybe try putting her next to the bed at eye level so she can see you. Also the size of the cage can matter also. I had a huge crate so I could put a puppy pad and she would cry and cry. I have a small crate now with just her blanket in there and she does great with that! Good luck!!!!

| I keep Bella in her crate (a small pet carrier with blanket and toys in it) on the nightstand right next to my bed at night, and she doesn't make a peep unless she needs to be let out to potty. I started that from day one, so she is quite used to sleeping in her crate at night. |

| Is her crate where she can see you in your bed? If not I would do that. Lots of people in apartments have to train puppy's and the only way to get her to stop is to let her know you not taking her out when she cries. With Callie when she would cry I would take her potty then put her right back in her bed and ignore her.

| I so admire all of you that have your dogs in crates, and it works. I, have always tried it in the beginning. It never worked except with one dog. Otherwise, they would cry and cry. I couldn't sleep, so in to the bed they came! Honestly, I sleep better knowing they are close to me. In fact, Libby likes to cuddle with DH and I can't sleep well until she comes back by me! The one dog that did sleep in her crate would just go in there on her own in the evening. Only time she needed tending was during thunderstorms which she was scared to death of. |
