| Another dog? My little girl is almost 2 now and weighs 2lbs even. I'd been thinking of getting her a friend to play with but just haven't really made the leap yet. Tonight, my breeder called me. She just so happens to have another 2.5lb girl that was brought back to her because the people that originally adopted her had a change in circumstances (whatever that means) and can't keep her. She's offering the dog to me first because she know how spoiled and cared for my Gabby is. My question (before I make the leap)... Is another dog half the work or twice the work? Gabby does enjoy playing with her fellow yorkie friends and she is kinda attached to our hips. I've always thought she'd love to have a dog of her own but just haven't been ready to do the puppy thing again. With this girl that's being offered to me, the puppy stuff is behind us already. Anyway, I figured the best place to ask this question would be those with the experience of more than one. So what made you decide to get another dog? |

| two yorkies are twice the fun We've been wanting to get Sophia a brother for a while, we just waited until the right one to come along. Sophia LOVESSS other dogs, so we knew that she needed a companion. We got Brody a month ago and things have been going really well, definitely happy with our decision , we would do it again in a heart beat I wouldn't say it's half the work... and I wouldn't say it's twice either. Definitely twice the poop though They spend alot of the time entertaining each other, but they still need their one on one attention too.

| For me, it is twice as nice and twice the work. Twice the vet bills is another important consideration. We groom at home, so twice as much grooming. My boys are great buddies, but they still look to me for entertainment because their favorite activity is going out for walks. It's harder to go out or travel with 2 (although my boys are much bigger than 2.5 pounds ). It's worth it because I get twice as much loving and twice as many kisses and so on. I say go for it!

| We added a second almost two years ago (wow, how time flies!) and I wouldn't go back. My two enjoy eachother so much, I couldn't imagine them not having eachother. My two play together, but they definitely don't completely entertain eachother. They still need me for love and I still have my little magnet (Couver). I would say go for it if you can afford the vet bills

| Two times the fun!! I have 3..lol IF she is the same weight, thats perfect. Atleast when they play they wont hurt each other. I would get her. Also, dogs are better in packs. Sisterly love is the best. =)

| We got Brody at 14 months old, puppy sat a Shih Tzu a couple months later and when she went home after 4 days, Brody was so forlorn he'd just lie on the floor where her kennel had been. We knew he needed a friend, and found golden Mia, who is 6 days older than him and almost exactly the same size. Both were 17 months old when we took Brody to meet Mia to see if she was a good match. They were instant friends and are still today...7 1/2 months later. It is a bit more work and expense, sure...you expect that. I cut bath time by putting each in his/her own side of my divided kitchen sink and bathing both at once. Sure, you'd have to get used to doing things a little different, and find your own timesavers, but bathing this way cuts my time in half...to just a little more than bathing Brody alone did. I assembly-line top knots, etc. whenever possible. But the joy of having both to love...and how much they love you back, and watching them play and cuddle up together...of watching one get on the edge of a sofa or bed and play-defense against the other with all the fake growling, tails wagging, errr-ing, etc., of watching them beg and compete to be the first to get their clothes put on, of watching the other one complain to Daddy how they were passed over for first clothes on position, of watching both proudly displaying themselves to absolute strangers in a Lowe's shopping cart and exchanging silent but knowing Yorkie glances just because they know how wonderful they are...well, I wouldn't trade it for the whole world. If you ever thought you might get a second one, perhaps you can make an arrangement to see if the two are right for each other. Your mind might get made for you. Good luck.

| The more the merrier.....as long as you keep in mind the vet bills, heartworm meds, grooming, etc. I adore all my babies and they all love each other....there are a few of the girls that cop an attitude if they think one is getting more attention than the other....you need to make personal loving time for each one of them so they know they are special.....I always whisper in each one of my babies ears, "You know, I love you the best of all...just dont tell the others!" (Isnt that so silly!!) |

| Wow you guys just make this decision harder. These little Yorkies are like potato chips aren't they? Can't just have one! Vet bills? Ugh.. don't even go there. I've seen my share of vet bills but with the teeny ones, they're almost unavoidable. The little ones can go downhill so fast. Even just an upset tummy sends us straight to the vet. I now have insurance one her, just in case! I'm prepared for that though. I'm very good friends with my vet and he knows how overprotective I am. Bath time here was a 3 ring circus act until I put her in a puppy cut. It makes grooming so much easier and I don't have to deal with the matting. I love the look of the long hair, but Gabby's hair is like cotton (a fault, I know but she's perfect to me) and it mats up so easily. The puppy cut just made sense. There will be the poo crew issue, but I have one of those 8 panel play yards for toddlers. Plenty of room for 2 and that's where all the amenities are, including pee pads. When I'm not home or can't watch her, that's where she's at. I live at the base of the Wasatch mountains. We have hawks where I live, so no being outside unsupervised. The only thing that's really a concern is bed space. Gabby sleeps on the bed with us and somehow ends up with half of it. I'm wondering if another dog is going to relegate me and hubby to the floor. 90% of the reason I'm considering this dog is because of her size. I didn't intentionally seek out a teeny one. It just happened that way. Gabby was charting out to be 5lbs, hit 2lbs and quit growing. So placing a 5-6lb dog just seems to me like potential for injury. If I get her a dog that's close to her size, it stands to reason that the risk would be lower? I guess we'll be making a 2 hour drive to meet this new little girl and see how her and Gabby interact together. If all goes well, we might have another furbaby |

| So I figured I'd update this thread. After quite a bit of thought and discussion with my hubby, we decided on this little girl. Meet Daisy. After meeting her I just couldn't leave her where she was. She's a rescue dog. 2.5 years old, VERY fearful of people and a biter. She's bitten me 3 times now but it's not her fault. Plus I've been bit by bigger dogs than her before. She's terrified, was obviously abused. I had to have her clipped short. Her coat was completely matted to the skin. It'll grow out though. She's 4 lbs and the vet said she's healthy. I just had her spayed and she's recovering nicely. Gotta love laser surgery. The important thing is she gets along beautifully with Gabby. She doens't have issues with other dogs, just people. It's going to take some time to teach her that not all hands are there to hurt you. |

| Oh that poor little baby. How sad. You will love having two! I would have three or four if DH would let me. It is so awesome to come home and have two babies greeting you and covering you with Yorkie kisses. It is also the coolest thing to see them play! Good luck to you and your new addition!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Daisy is adorable. I am so glad she found her way to your loving home. That's great she is getting along with Gabby right away. I would think as she finds her new people won't hurt her and watched Gabby interact with you she will be fine.
