| Why such a huge prices??? Hello Everyone, I am getting ready to purchase a yorkie, and i have never had a dog before. I found a breeder that I think is ok. I asked her questions and all the info that I needed to find out and she answered with full explanation. I did my research on the internet and have one question. Why on earth people charge such an outrages prices. Yesterday I found a web page that was selling small breed for $10,000!!! Are these people insane??? Anyways, my questions is how these people set prices for dogs. If I want to purchase a puppy in rage between $500 and $700 does that mean I am getting worse puppy then people that are paying over $1000? Does it mean that the dog might be sick and the breeder just wants to get rid of it??? What is the average price for yorkie pup? I also went to puppy stores in my area and they told me prices between $1500 and $2200, and I cannot afford that much. I would really appreciate help. Thanks annette22 |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | $10,000 is insane! You can find yorkies for MUCH less money. It doesn't mean you are getting a worse dog at all. Also, do not ever buy a dog from a pet store. They get their dogs from puppy mills. If you don't know what a puppy mill is, just type it in in the search bar in here, that'll tell you. Good luck, and welcome to yorkietalk.

| our puppies here in canada range from 500.00 to 3000.00 or above depending on if you want pet or show!! Do not buy from a puppy store, many sad stories which I am sure you'll hear! If you have found a responsible & reputable breeder and are happy with them ....stay! We paid 800.00 & 900.00 for our furbabies and both are in perfect health and came from a reputable breeder! Our kidlets would never make show but none the less they are perfect ,mischievious, lively & the most wonderful companions Our family has ever had!!........

| Location and demand set price. I think it depends where you go. Pet stores usually have the highest prices and sickest dogs. I bougt my Yorkies for $700 a piece almost 1-1/2 years ago and because of their popularity the breeder is now selling them for considerably more. They are of pet quality, meaning they don't meet the strict show qualities. Most people cannot even tell the difference between a show and pet quality. I don't know where you reside in IL. but you might be able to find a cheaper breeder in Fort Wayne, Indiana or South Bend. |

| We just moved from Illinois so I know you can find a very nice Yorkie puppy in most areas of the state for a very reasonable price. We paid $700.00 for Jo when he was 16 weeks, he's almost 1 year old now, he weighs 3 pounds and he's perfectly healthy. Now that we're in Florida we bought our second one, Riley, who is 6 months old, he's healthy and also weighs 3 pounds...we paid $500.00 for him at 13 weeks. You can check with shelters and Yorkie rescue groups to see if they have any available. Have you checked the Tradin' Post and local newspaper ads? |

| [QUOTE=annette22]Hello Everyone, I did my research on the internet and have one question. Why on earth people charge such an outrages prices. Yesterday I found a web page that was selling small breed for $10,000!!! Are these people insane??? Anyways, my questions is how these people set prices for dogs. ========================================= The answer to this question is BECAUSE THEY CAN! A breeder or broker can set the price as high as they wish too. It is the uneducated buyer who gets sucked into these SCAMMERS. That's exactly what they are scammers. No pet/companion is worth $10,000 or even over $2,000. If I want to purchase a puppy in rage between $500 and $700 does that mean I am getting worse puppy then people that are paying over $1000? Does it mean that the dog might be sick and the breeder just wants to get rid of it??? ================================== Again it only means a breeder sets her prices for what the market will purchase them. Sometimes it also means a less quality dog.....one who may be unhealthy but that's not always the case. What is the average price for yorkie pup? I also went to puppy stores in my area and they told me prices between $1500 and $2200, and I cannot afford that much. I would really appreciate help. Thanks ===================================== The average price for a well bred pet/companion in and around Texas and Louisiana is $800 to $1,500. You should be able to find a really nice pet for $800 sometimes from a show breeder. Also do not get set on a "puppy".....there may be some very nice young individuals available for $500 to $800.....show breeders may keep them for almost a year before deciding to place them in a companion home. Yorkies are a fickle breed!! They will bond at any age to their human.....they will love with all their being anyone who loves them! And as a side note......If the PAWS bill #1139 passes in Congress it will be about 200 times harder to find a well bred social dog......the PAWS bill will force many small breeders to stop breeding leaving only the commerical USDA kennels or pet store puppies as sources for a puppy. Also the prices will probably skyrocket due to less puppies available and more demand in the market. For more information...go to http://www.pet-law.com/ D |
