Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() I live in Gurnee, Il and i purchased Cali at 9 weeks of age in August and she was 1500.00 the breeder said it was because she was the best of the litter and the smallest. I think after joining Yt she was charging for a "teacup" even though I did not go looking for one, I beleive she was just the runt, but the cutest! She is 22 weeks and 3 lbs so I think she will end of average size 4-5 lbs but her littermates were sold for 1,000.00 as they were a little bigger.

Respectfully I submit that no one should have to pay $2,000 or more for a pet/companion. For a breeding and/or show puppy.....YES.....but come on....not for a companion! When a breeder prices her puppies that high....she is leaving out an awful lot of good and wonderful homes......people who would make wonderful puppy parents....but simply cannot afford $2,000 plus for a DOG. Think about it. Don't get me wrong.....I must get a fair price for puppies or I cannot continue....I guess it's like I said before....what one person thinks is fair.....another thinks it's overpriced. And that goes for the current trend of selling rare colors.....gold, brown or parti's or even "biewer"....if it's sold as a companion....then it's a darn shame to price them so high. And I love the parti-colored Yorkies. LOL PS......I am a show breeder......I do have champion stock here....and I have three Yorkies from BIS parents.....but that's not really an excuse to demanded woefully high prices for pets. I am aware that many show breeders sell their pet puppies for $2,000 plus.....do you think that really makes them better pets?? No I don't think so! D PPS.....and i have been known to drop my price if a person convinces me that they would give the dog a forever and wonderful home... D

| ![]() We paid $400 for Lacey. Don't jump all over me because my parents purchased her from a pet store. They did not know anything about puppy mills. Don't worry, we won't be purchasing from a pet store this time. From a breeder only. We bought Lacey in 1992. But, we were lucky. She was a very healthy dog with no problems. Until she got kidney failure at age 13. That was due to old age. It wouldn't of matter where we would of got her from. Organs start to give out at certain age. We have been searching everywhere for a yorkie puppy for the last few months. We were a little surprized on how high the prices went up since 1992. My mom was set on a price of $650. We did find a man nearby that was selling his puppies for $500. His litter was due on November 22nd. But, we were on the bottom of the list. We called the man and left a message on the 22nd, but he never returned our calls. So, I guess the dogs were already sold to someone else. We found a breeder nearby that is selling her females for $900. So, after a LOT of begging, my mom just may end up getting one of her puppies. I told her I can go in half with her. She really did not want to pay that much at ALL. But, we just can't seem to find anything in our area under $800 especially for a female. We also found 1 other breeder nearby whose dogs are also due the second week of December. Her prices start at $800. We will go with her if the other lady does not work out because it is no guarantee she will produce a female. The other lady has 4 litters due all in December! So we are almost guaranteed a female if we go with her. |

| ![]() Cajungal - Is your heart set on a female? If it's just for a pet, you might want to consider a male and get a better price. Just a thought...

| ![]() Yes, our heart is set on a female. Now, I love all dogs male or female. I would of been happy either way. I don't really have much say because I still live at home with my parents. (Will move out as soon as I get a better paying job, pay off some bills and save up some money.) And my mom is paying for most of the dog. But, my mom wants only a female. We only owned female dogs before. And my mom always has our dogs paper trained and are strictly house dogs. She does not like the cocking of the legs that males do. So, we are going to get a female even if it means paying $200 more. |

| ![]() My mom will keep the dog once I move out. She won't let me take it once I leave. But, if I leave, I will live nearby so I can still see her all the time. And then I will have to find a place that allows pets and start saving again for my own yorkie. Even though I am 29, it might still be awhile before I can move out anyway. I know I am too old to still be living at home. But, I have to pay off my car and my credit card first. And that will still take awhile. I have a year left before the car is paid off. |

I totally agree, if he or she comes from champion blood lines, is a show dog with a winning history and has a great pedigree and temperament. and if it could pass the canine good citizen test and be a therapy dog. I would be willing to pay that much.

The prices ARE NUTS FOR YORKIES and nothing anyone can say will make me think otherwise - If I were single - I would NOT HAVE a yorkie because there is no way I would be able to afford the prices I'm seeing lately ..THAT would really REALLY SUCK...I can't imagine my life without my girls -
