| Pet Store needs reporting I seen there is another thread similiar to what I am about to post. Most becoming a common thing. I went to a pet store today on my lunch hour. I wasn't there to purchase a pet but their web-site I thought said they had the gourmet treats and that is what I was looking for. Also always looking for something new for Jack and Josie. The store had two entrances one was to the puppy side an the other to the for sale items and grooming. I choose the puppy side first since I do like ot look at the puppies. I know not to go in pup stores cause I always come out with a broken heart and want to rescue all. This had to be the worse pup store I think I have ever been in. The smell was unreal. They had puppies basically 2 to each open area (not cages). They had shredded paper for the bottom and several had poop all in it and the puppies were laying in it, walking on it. I seen one even licking poop. The water bowls looked like the water had not been changed ever! One area had several very small chiuaua puppies in it. I walk over cause there was one curled up not moving while the others were boucing all around it. I stuck my hand on its side to see if I could feel it breath and I really couldn't so I nudged it a few times. She moved a little and a girl walked out of the back and I ask her if this puppy was okay. She said yea, she has just been "held" all day. She picked her up and placed her closer to the light. She said she is actually more fiesty than any of them. I said she looks very young. She said she was actually 13 weeks old. (No way) That puppy would fit in my hand, no kidding. I walked to where the yorkies were, I should have ran out after the chiuaua exihibit. It breaks my heart just to think about it, these two yorkies I don't think were "full" blooded yorkies. If they were they had some kind of mix down the line in them. One of the babies was standing on her back feet scratching to get out. She did that the whole time I was there. I petted the other one that was in there and you could actually feel the babies rib cage. It was horrible. I started tearing up at that point. I walked around and look in the other pups areas, this other dog may have been a malteese I can't remember now cause by now I am mortified. This dog was eating the paper that the food was served on. It look like the coffee filters you put in a coffee pot. Another pup was chewing on the holder that you would put the water bottle on. I told the girl, he may need some water. By now they are probably thinking who the heck is this person. There was another set of the yorkies but I could not take no more and left. When I left I used the hand santizier and my hand that I had been petting the pups with was actually DIRTY! When I got back to work I took a Clorox wipe and wiped my hands really good and the bottom of my shoes. I would not want to take nothing home to Jack and Josie. I want to report this place, who do I call? The Health department? The Humane Society? I did peep in next door to see what that was about, they sold food in there and leashes some outfits. There was a dog getting groomed. I cannot believe anyone in their right mind would take their dog there to get groomed. There were a couple of young girls on that side as well as a couple or three on the other also. I can still smell that smell. |

| There's a pet store in our local mall that sells puppies. It's just like you describe...shredded paper, often two to a plexiglass cage and most the pups look to be in rough shape. The store also sells RC kibble, Puppia harnesses, Zack & Zoey clothing (all of which I like....) as well as carriers, beds, etc. I refuse to buy anything there & buy what I want online or at petsmart/petco, because I will not support a pet store that sells puppy mill puppies...or any puppies...because I don't believe any decent breeder would give their puppies to such a place.

YT 1000 Club Member | Gatord, yes Yes YES ! Call the Health Department, the Humane Society, ASPCA, the local Police even, they may have a Division which takes care of Animals. You could even write the Parent/Corporation for the Store, write them (the specific store) a letter of complaint. AND even your local Newspaper. Now... Were the pets being fed...probably Have Water... probably Atendance...yea sorta So, it may be that none of the people you contact about this, could actually do much, but... Look at all the negative press they would get. So even if nobody got "sited" for a wrongdoing, things may get better...maybe. And, possibly all those "Inspectors" who might be looking around there, just might make things better...maybe.

| It's so sad.. that Chihuahua puppy was probably depressed.. had coccidia and whatever else.. poor little puppies. It is so sad that pet stores even get enough "puppy" business that it's worth it to them to keep puppies for sell. With all the publicity to inform people "not to buy pet shop puppies" it would seem that people would be wise enough to not look for puppies in these places. If people would stop buying them, then pet stores would stop displaying them. If pet shops didn't buy puppies, then brokers wouldn't buy puppies and then mass producing puppy mills wouldn't have an outlet for their poor little sick and poorly bred puppies. |
