| Please Help! I know theere has got to be a thread out there with this but i cannot find the help i need and I need it asap. I am a new parent of a 13 week old yorkie named Tike. the first few nights went without a hitch, but tonight there are major sleep issues. I put him to bed after going to the potty at 8:50 he wined until 9:10 so i let him out and tried to see if he still had to go... nope by 10 i tried to put him to bed. This time I thought to wait out the crying.. 11:00 still crying so I woke up and came back out and let him out, i noticed he kept going to where his food and water bowl was so i thought maybe thursty/hungry ok... i'll stay up till 12 after he eats and try to see if he will go potty then put him to bed... 12:30 rolls up and potties not #2. so i try to put him to sleep and now im noticing he is ONLY falling asleep on my lap... its 1:11 right now in the AM and I am Soo beat please HELP ME!! Im wondering if it was the bath today, or he got scared today of his reflection... so now he wont sleep on his own... not sure.. I Got him on Wednesday its now sunday... |

| When you bring home a new puppy.....it takes a little while for them to adjust to you, the home etc. Personally I let my babies sleep with me...it nixed the crying and the separation anxiety your puppy is going thru....if that's out of the question...then you could try putting the crate close to your bed....or leave on a light....there might be a few other suggestions but those are the only ones I can think of right this moment.. I don't believe the bath or the reflection is what's causing the issues...Its just separation anxiety. Puppies are used to sleeping with others and being alone can be very hard for them to deal with. I don't think you should let him eat or drink so late at night though..you might find him needing to go potty very very early in the morning...jmo

| When we got Darwin I put him into a crate close enough to our bed and dangled my fingers so he knew he wasn't alone. Good luck and pretty soon you should both be sleeping like happy babies! |

| First of all ....Welcome to YT!! When i got Oliver (my first yorkie) i tried keeping him in a pen with all his necessities, (bed, toys, paper, food and water) He did fine all day but when it came to night and me going to bed he would get upset and carry on......i finally read about how they like to be with their "pack" and so I decided to try putting him in a crate to sleep at night and i put it on our nightstand in our bedroom. That way he could see me and feel close...if he carried on at all i would stick my fingers through the gate on his kennel to comfort him!.....it worked for us and him!!

| I agree with other poster. He's just a baby and wants the warmth and comfort from you. I never had a pen for Andy and still don't. He sleeps with me.

| I put a pack and play next to my bed and would dangle my hand over so Abby new I was there. Worked like a charm. It takes a good week or so though. Hang in there. New baby= less sleep. |

| Welcome to YT!! My Betty Boop, from the moment I got her, wanted to be with me at all times. I've always let her sleep with me. At the beginning, it was because I thought she might get lonesome all by herself. Now it's me that would be lonesome all by myself (the dh doesn't count. haha). They earn the name "Velcro dog" because that is exactly what they act like. I believe you will find this out very soon. In fact, mine is nestled up to my side right now. I understand you want yours to sleep in his pen and I wish you luck. Hopefully someone will have a suggstion that will work for you.

YT Addict | Gizmo started in a pen, but only during work hours, he would have to be pinned up during 6 am til 6 pm when I first got him 4 years ago, But from 6 pm til 6 am he had the run of the house and slept with hubby and I. On fridays he would drive into work with me and go to daycare near my job so he could run arrands with me thru out the day. All of that was in the first year, I am home everyday now but the first year was tough getting him on a routine. I agree with the other posters, he just needs a little time to get on a routine with his new family. Good luck and welcome to yorkie talk!

| For the first couple of weeks after we got Shadow, I had her crate on a table right next to my bed so that if she woke up and I knew she didn't have to go potty, I would just put my fingers in the crate and she would quiet down. Didn't get a whole lot of sleep, but now she just cralws into her crate when we go up to sleep. |

| Hey that is great news! Thank you for all the ideas, I guess he just needs to be left to cry it out and he will get used to it. Right now i'm working on potty pad trainning him too, so much going on for the little guy, just wondering if this is good enough though, I have a pad underneith my desk area so i just lay there until he goes pottie, well atleast that is the idea, he just doesnt want to go pottie while i'm there blocking his exit... the only way, through the front. I keep telling him to go pottie over and over, i kept him there after eating and drinking for well over 30 min, he got upset and just kept trying to go to sleep so i would pick him up and put him on the bad. I finally gave up... not he is sleeping right next to me.. anyone know if that is a good technique to just block him in there so he can assosciate Pottie, with that pad? |

| Oliver was only 6 weeks old when we rescued him and he slept in a pen near my bed. He got up a few times the the first night because he went potty in his pen and he didn't like it I had to get up and change his pad. Now he's 11 weeks old and he sleeps in his own room in a coralle with a pad inside and we're both doing fine. It takes a little while for a young puppy to get used to being without his mom. Although Oliver was vrey young he adapted very well you have to give them time. |

| Buddy was 12 weeks when we got him and he had a bed right next to our bed to sleep in, you have to think, we took him at 12 weeks from his brothers and sisters whom he slept with to a strange house and on his own at night, a big teddy and a ticking clock are good, as the ticking clock is like his mums heart beat, be patient he is in a new scary world.
