| When to get a 2nd yorkie? I can't find the old thread of when people think it's best to try and get another yorkie. I just have kaylee..she'll be 1 this march & my sister n law has just had another litter of 6 last monday but the runt passed due to some internal issues. She told my husband and he is some what against it. He thinks that it's a bad idea, but I think it would be nice for her to have someone to play with/little buddy. What age do you think is best to get another yorkie? What sex is best to get; the same, or a male?, AND , do females get along good enough even if you get them both fixed? Hope to hear some answers soon, thank you . Hope everyone had a good Christmas/New Years! <3 Kaylee & Whitney |

| We got our 2nd furbaby when our first yorkie was about a year and a half, best thing we ever did. Love our yorkies. Now we have three.

Getting a second dog has so many variables to it. Can you financially and emotionally, and physically support the lifelong care of another dog? Not to put too obvious a point to this; you and your husband are a team, the decision to get or not to get a second dog, needs to be something you are both on board with. That is a first and foremost before what age to get another pup is.

| First off, thanks for your replies. Now, my husband is against getting a second yorkie for the most part that kaylee has accidents here and there even though she lets us know when she wants out by scratching on the door. He gets upset that she still makes mistakes and doesn't want another dog doing so. She's "my dog" because he got her for me; I feed, water, bathe, Clean up after her & cut her hair myself. I believe I could emotionally and physically take care of another yorkie baby; but i'm seeking others advice from those who have gotten a second yorkie to see from what they tell me.. if it's even worth getting one. The puppy who passed away with internal issues was just an update stating that my sister in law now has 5 puppies to choose from. Since the post, I found out last night that now there are two silver puppies because the mom is not taking care of the puppies & she's apparently already tried to chew on a few. They've lost that instinct to suck..but my sister in law is a veterinarian technician so the reason the last two are alive are because of her. I understand my husband is my other half yet other reason to making decisions. Regardless if I really 'want' something, we always make a decision together. We both wanted to know other peoples reactions to when they decided on when it was a good time for a second one by seeing how old their first one was before they decided. He just wanted me to put that he was semi against it. |

| do what your heart tells you. Another puppy most likely will be a playmate when he/she gets old enough. I have three.. they play and are always together. It is pure joy to watch them. I work and wanted a companion for my first furbaby.. I would have more if I could afford the upkeep. I guess it is a lot like having children (except we don't have to save for college) Hope that helped ps my poor husband... I was the one who always brought a puppy home. I know he would get mad.. but love the furbaby anyway.

Thor's Human Donating Member | I would wait until Kaylee is fully potty trained. It's hard enough to train one, I can't imagine doing two at the same time.

| I totally agree. We got Bullet when Rio was 14 months old. The first few days we thought , "OMG what were we thinking?!" thank goodness we didn't have to worry about Rio because she already was potty trained. Now we are soooooooo glad we got Bullet - best thing ever. They are absolute best buddies and I never thought I could love another the way I love Rio. But I sure do love em both equally and more than anything!!

| I've enjoyed having two. Just stick to a schedule when training. Maybe wait til your first is fully potty trained as the new puppy will learn so much from the older one. Will your sister have another litter to pick from? It bothers me that the mom rejected them. I'm not sure if the pups will have learned whatthey need to from her. I'm sure your sister is a great breeder, but you'll want the best possible puppy available. Good luck with your decision
