| Excessively Licking Feet My yorkie has been licking the tops of his feet a lot. I don't see any sign of a rash anywhere on his body, but his feet look like he dipped them in his water dish. If he gets distracted by a toy or the cat he will stop licking, but as soon as he lays down he starts licking again. Any ideas or suggestions? |

| Sounds like he could have allergies. Have you noticed if the hair around his feet is pink tinged? I would take him to a vet for a check up. Welcome to YT

| If Ziva licks her feet I pick her up and run her feet under the water, I figure maybe she got into something outside- usually helps! If the big dog starts licking I know her allergies are acting up and I increase her meds. |

| presto used to do that a lot along with scratching his ears, the vet said it was just puppy itch. But we spoke to the breeder and she indicated it might be allergies so i switched his dog food. He was taking Royal Canin for Yorkie puppies now he is on the blue buffalo for puppies and is doing a lot better. I would recommend switching his dog food!! |

| I agree, Sounds like allergies. If you have benadryl I would try a half of a pill. But it depends on the size. I give my Romie 1 pill and Sadie uses 1/2 a pill. Sadie is 3.5 lbs and romie is 15 lbs. If that stops the itching then that is the problem.

| OP = Please do not give your dogs any meds that someone has told you to give without consulting with your vet. They are usually given based on weight. I see one person gave an amount of Benadryl that I believe is over the normal dose to be given...I could be wrong, but either way, your vet should advise you!

| Sounds like allergies. I would talk to your vet immediately. For many dogs, allergies can be treated easily with medication. My little guy has severe allergies, but one part of his treatment is a half tablet of Zyrtec each evening (he also gets allergy shots and Atopica, a pretty strong allergy medication). I know that for many dogs, over-the-counter human medications like Zyrtec or Claritin can provide relief. But again, talk with your vet.
