| Yorkshire terriers worldwide needing fur-ever homes (& deathrow yorkies) YORKSHIRE TERRIERS WORLDWIDE NEEDING FUR-EVER HOMES ( & DEATHROW YORKIES) | Facebook I have started this group on facebook and i wondered how many of you have had or have a shelter yorkie? If you haven't is there a reason why you wouldn't want one? It would be lovely to hear any yorkie rescue stories if you have one

Thor's Human Donating Member | Yep, we definitely do. There was a big thread on this a while back where everyone shared their stories. Megansmomma and ladyjane are both active in rescue, they may be able to help you with the facebook page in terms of linking to national rescues, etc.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I volunteer at a no kill shelter and see many dogs come in scared to death. With the TLC of staff and volunteers they quickly adapt to shelter life until a forever home can be found. I took in Nikki, a 15 year old male yorkie back in February when his owner had a stroke and had to go to a nursing home. I had met Nikki and his owner about 6 months prior to that so he was familiar with me. He was only with his owner for 2 years. She adopted him from a rescue that had found him wandering the streets of Chicago. We had to have all his teeth removed and gum work done as his teeth were in horrible shape. Nikki acclimated almost immediately in to our home and sleeps just about on top of me. He was use to being walked for his pottying but quickly learned to use pee pads and is very good about using them. He does have some issues with jealousy of my girls. If I am giving them attention, he will try and attack them. Fortunately he has no teeth so he can't hurt them. Also, he responds pretty quickly to my telling him No. I take him to see his owner every few weeks in the nursing home and he is excited to see her but just as happy to be "home" again. I was really surprised at how quickly he adapted to his sudden life change.

| We don't have Yorkie rescues here in South Africa....for some (good) reason they never seem to turn up at SPCA's either.... I guess they must get a few in, but they get adopted quickly. I am however going to be "rescuing" one fairly soon - a friend of a friend is dying of cancer and will be needing homes for her 4 Yorkies. I have promised to take one and give it a forever home.

| I rescued a Yorkie in 1993. I loved "Cricket" so much! I almost did not take her because I could tell she was not being well cared for. I decided she would be better off with me. I took her home, gave her a good bath and took great care of her. Spoiled her! The years she had with us, were probably the best years of her life. In 1995, she passed away in her sleep of a heart attack. I was devastated. It has taken me since that time, to finally have another dog. So since January, I have brought home 2 precious, sweet little puppies. I love them so much and I am having fun spoiling them. With all my children grown up..... youngest is almost 21..... my puppies are my "babies". There is great rewards to rescuing. I have also rescued ALL of my kitties. And they are also very spoiled and very loved. |

| I love my new yorkie and have two other dogs. I tried to get one from a rescue and was told I was a good candidate but due to not having specific rescue experience they would not place one with us. I guess I don't understand as the only way to get yorkie experience is to have one. So we did go out and research and talk to others that have them and found a breeder and we got one. She is wonderful. About 3 weeks after we got her the rescue called to see if we were still interested they might reconsider. I said no as she was only 3 1/2 months old. It makes me sad though (not that we don't love her) but we could have rescued one without a good home instead of going to a breeder. |

| Our Dany is a shelter pup, most likely from a puppy mill due to her condition and behavior. She has really come out of her shell though and is an absolute joy to have around. I highly recommend adopting from rescues!
