| A little ready - and a LOT nervous... Am I nuts for being nervous and not overly excited about bringing home my new yorkie? She has a name (finally).. I'm buying the xpen this weekend... she has a bed... I have some nutrical... I plan on buying a collar after I get her, likely one with a bell so I don't step on her... I have some pee pads.... I have an old harness that should fit her.... the breeder is sending me home with food.... so I'll buy that later. She comes home next Friday......... And I am so nervous!!! Oliver was 1.5 (ish) when I got him. He was mostly potty trained by his foster family and had few accidents. I have NEVER potty trained before. I was 12 when we got our first dog, and really didn't have a role in the training (which is why that dog was such a brat, but I sure loved him, lol). I've been doing alright with Ollie... but he's not a puppy. I feel physically ready. I have or have plans to get everything she needs. I'm just SO nervous about caring for this 3 pound little life. She is BIG for 12 weeks.... how do people do it with 1 pounders... I went to visit her this week, and she's really coming around.. she's calm when you hold her, and playful with her brothers when you let her free. She's exactly what I've always wanted in a dog.. so why am I so darn nervous about it? I'm old enough to have children for goodness sakes.. I can handle a puppy! Right?.....

| It's not much different than having your first skin baby. You're nervous at first but instinct takes over and you just play it by ear. Don't worry, you'll be a natural in no time and will thoroughly enjoy your new little bundle of fur. It sounds like you have most of the basics and are prepared. Congratulations!!!

| I know how you feel I pick up my little boy this Friday and I am very excited. We have settled on a name yet but I think we will let his personality decide which name he ends up with. We are making a stop at Petsmart tomorrow morning. I have a few last minute things to pick up. I have been bugging my friend who also has a little boy. What if he does this or what did you do when Max did this? My daughter says its like getting ready for a real baby. (BTW she is the one who wants a stroller!)

Senior Yorkie Talker | Its normal to be nervous, i was excited and nervous at the same time before I got my girl, and she's 2 yrs old weighing 4.5 lbs. All the nervousness went away though when i had her in my arms at home, felt good to finally have her home! You will do fine, like the person above said it will all come natural. Congrats on your new furbaby!

| I looked forward to getting a Yorkie for almost 8 months. When the time finally came to get Chloe, I was almost physically sick to my stomach I was so nervous. We drove about four and a half hours to pick her up and all I did was worry that I had made a bad decision...that I was rushing into it...that I would do something wrong or break her...that I was paying too much for her... We'd also just recently had to put my nine year old poodle to sleep, so I also worried about falling in love with her and having to deal with the pain of losing her at some point. Then we got to her breeder's home and the woman was standing at the door holding the most adorable little fuzz ball who, when she was put down on the floor, hopped around like a little bunny rabbit. All of a sudden, all those giant butterflies and all that anxiety just disappeared like it had never been there. On the trip back home I could hardly sit still I was so excited and happy. I just couldn't quit snuggling her! Now granted, after we got home, the nerves came back a little because she was so tiny and I wanted so badly to do everything right. But the nervousness was never as bad as the day went to pick her up and within a week I was totally and 100% convinced that she was perfect for us. My husband and I call her the "best bad decision we've ever made". (Bad as in irresponsible not evil.) So yes, I think it's perfectly normal to be so nervous that you don't even have room for excitement. But trust me, it goes away fast and you'll have plenty of time to be excited too!! -C

| It's only natural that you would feel this way. Probably by Sunday or Monday you'll start getting really excited and forget about being nervous. You'll just want to go get that little bundle of joy!

| I'm hoping it is normal to be nervous. We picked up our puppy a week ago on Monday. I was a nervous wreck even on the way home. The puppy was great, never cried at night, sleeps in a crate by my bed just fine. But I was a mess for days. I worried that it was a bad decision getting a dog, that I would never be able to go anywhere again, and about every thing I've read about ever since I started this thing. Well, he is a sweet little thing. He is as good as a puppy can be. Doesn't have a clue about potty issues, but it doesn't seem to matter. We are finally getting a schedule of some sort. Everyone loves him and wants to come see him. It is a challenge and a lot of work, but so far has been good and my nerves are calming down. Best wishes on your puppy. It will be ok.

| It's normal to be nervous, it's something unknown. You'll do great. You already care, and thats a great start. Try to relax and enjoy your first days together. Take lots of pictures, as the grow very quickly, and you will want to remember how little he was. Take it one day at a time and follow your instincts. He will show you unconditional love even if you are not perfect, he wont care. |

| I guess I was the opposite! I was very excited; not nervous at all. I have always loved yorkies, but have never had one, until now. Then, I started reading so many negatives about the breeds health and freaked out. I have calmed down by now, but I don't take this responsibility lightly. I was worried about her not eating and went through a few foods before she was happy. I was worried that she wouldn't get along with my other pets and she did fine. I had to tell myself to go with the flow and pay attention to her needs, but don't over think everything she does or doesn't do. You will be fine once the little one is in your arms! This breed is such a joy to be around. Have fun! |

| I know how you feel. I am excited but yet very nervous to get Bella. I know you will be just fine and you will do everything just the way you should. I think its normal for us to feel that way. Best Wishes with your new little one.

| Thanks for everyone's well wishes. I'm glad to hear it's normal to be nervous! I may have to put bringing her home on hold. Last night as Oliver and I were going to bed, I found a large lump on his back. It doesn't seem to hurt, but it's big and solid. I am terrified. I need to find out what's going on with him and perhaps have the breeder keep the dog longer until then. Now all I can think about is losing Ollie and how I am setting myself up for that AGAIN with the new pup. Hopefully not so soon, but eventually. Oliver is only approx. 2 yrs old (puppymill rescue, will never know his true age) so he still has a LOT of life to live. Crazy how life can change so much in a matter of seconds... I'd really rather be nervous about the puppy again...

| Did some research and it seems that the rabies vaccine often causes lumps and bumps, and Oliver was vaccinated last week. Hoping that's all this is, going to call my vet today. Feeling a little more calm now, lol.
