| Two dogs? Help! Hello all! Yesterday I fell in love with a Chihuahua puppy, he's 10 weeks old and he has the most adorable apple puppy head. They're selling him for $750 and he's going to grow up to be 4lbs (Toffee's weight). Do you think it's a good or bad idea to get another dog now? Especially since Toffee isn't 100% house trained (he's 80% there, and 7months old). Is it a lot of extra work and am I going to be very hassled by having two dogs around? Do Chihuahuas and Yorkies get along? Finally, what are the negatives about Chihuahuas? Thanks you guys! |

I Love Thor Donating Member | I would say, don't impulse buy! You already have your hands full and it just doesn't seem like a good idea right now. JMO |

| It possibly sounds like you might have not done much research on Chi's etc. Maybe spend the next 6 months or so learning all you can and then decide if you really feel bringing in another pet is a good idea for you. It's a lifetime commitment these little babies w/ 4 legs and so I feel it's worth it's weight in gold doing as much research as you can before hand.

| I would just think on it and do what you think is best. I had two pups at once and it really wasnt that difficult to train them. One followed the other.

| I have had three chihuahuas since the time I was a very little girl. They are long-lived little dogs. If you don't already know the negatives, then you have not done the research that you should have done. Are you prepared to make up to and perhaps longer than a 20 year commitment to a chihuahua as well as a yorkie? They do require a lot of attention as do yorkies. Have you researched their health problems? They can be noisy, too. In general, most chihuahuas like the sound of their own voices!

| Thanks for the help you guys. I've done some research on Chis but I haven't found any significant negatives which is why I was wondering if anyone knew any on a personal level. I understand that they are noisy but is there anything else? Well, I'm sure all puppies differ in terms of their temperment. We're still deciding on the puppy =) but your advice has helped a lot! I was hoping to find Toffee a companian. Is another Yorkie preferable for him? |

| I have three chihuahuas and they are barkers. they usually make up with one person but ours decided to be me and my hubbys best friend. they growl at people that come to visit. they want on your lap everytime you set down. and they want under the covers if they sleep in your bed. yorkies and them get along fine at least mine do. Good luck on your choice. I dont know where you live but they sell for 300-450 here.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Eddie has a long-haired chihuahua buddy named Sophia that he USUALLY plays with well. But she can be a little witch sometimes. When she visits (3-4 times a week for the day), she's real possessive of us and wants to keep Eddie from us. That doesn't go over too well, and they sometimes get into some good little spats. My wife loves chihuahuas, but when I asked her if she would consider keeping Sophia, she said NO. Too much bickering between the dogs. That said, Eddie seems sad on days she doesn't visit.
