| A papillon sister for Sophie? Sophie has been an only dog, but I've always had 2 dogs in the past. I'd love for Sophie to have a sister to play with us, take walks with us, and hang out together when I'm at work. I watch YT videos posted by people with two (or more) Yorkies and I really feel Sophie's missing out by being an only dog. Sophie was originally with my mom, who has 3 other dogs, and she does really well with other dogs. Even when we take our walks every day, she's really friendly... but pretty submissive. She has to be-- she doesn't even weigh 3 lbs.! I searched shelters on-line and found a 2 year-old, 4 lb. female, Pippen, who was a puppy mill dog. Pippen has been in a foster home for the last few months with other dogs, and they say she's doing well and very gentle, but she needs a forever home. I went to meet Pippen and she is the sweetest, snuggliest thing... I actually stayed and held her and talked to her for almost 45 minutes, lol. After the New Year, Sophie and I are going to foster Pippen and see how it goes; the rescue requires a foster period before adoption, which I think is a wonderful idea (I think more people will be likely to adopt that way). But what do all of you think about papillons? I'll confess I don't know much about the breed. I've been reading on-line and it sounds like they're sweet little dogs... but does anyone have a pap? A pap with a Yorkie? What do you think? Last edited by mommyofsophie; 12-18-2009 at 01:54 PM. |

| Pippen is absolutely adorable! I hope Sophie and Pip become best friends. I don't know anything about the breed but I do know about cuteness and that baby is a cutey pie! I think it is a brilliant idea to foster before adopting. Good luck!! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | She is adorable. I have heard they are sweet but do not have any first hand knowledge. That is great that the shelter does the foster first. I think it would ensure more successful adoptions. Keep us posted.

| I agree-- so smart for the rescue to let people foster first! That way, people will feel "safer" adopting, I think. I can't believe this sweet little dog was a puppy mill breeder. :-( Thank goodness she wasn't a good breeder, because that turned out to save her! |

| She is very cute! Papillons are highly intelligent and very sweet dogs. My Aunt had some years ago (all passed including the Aunt now) They do shed a little.

| I have not personally had a pap but I know they are very good dogs... I think they have more energy then yorkies but otherwise are similar in many ways. I think this will work out good... pip looks like a real sweetie |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | We have a Papillon, Scout, he came as a foster and dh decided Scout needed to stay. He's bigger than Pippen by about 3 pounds. Also, he's bigger than my two yorkies, but I've never had to worry about the size difference as he's not aggressive at all! Scout has the best personality, extremely friendly. Everyone that visits here absolutely loves him (my yorkies have always been a little stand-offish when it comes to strangers) and Scout loves everyone that walks through the door. He is also a very smart dog, has been easy to train, loves playing and is the most loyal and caring dog. He follows me around all day, if I leave the room, Scout always is a step behind me (unlike the yorkies). As Cerise mentioned, they do shed somewhat but with daily brushing (which I'm doing already with the yorkies) it's kept to a minimum. From my experience a Papillon does great with a yorkie and Pippen is a lucky girl if she finds a home with a yorkie loving owner! Good Luck! This is our Scout at about 6-7 months.

| My neighbor friend has had two Papillons. This is the only experience I have had with the breed, and that is limited. Her two were agressive in nature; not with her, but anyone else was not able to enjoy them, even her dh. The were owned at different times and she had her Cocker Spaniel, Bells, with both and Bells did not mesh with either... I think Pippen is adoarble, however, and hopefully she will love Sophie too. I like that you are meeting and spending time with her before you commit. Smart! |

| Adorable! And I LOVE the Papillions! Every one I've met is sooo friendly. I love the breed. Good luck I agree - I feel terrible for Jackson sometimes because he is just sooo happy being with other dogs but I'm not in a position right now to add a second. *sigh* Someday... But, the Papillons are one of the top ten smartest breeds out there, highly trainable. They shed a ton though!

| Thanks for the heads-up on the shedding, everyone. We've gotten spoiled with our Yorkies and their wonderful coats! It's been a long time since I've had a shedding animal... but I wonder how much hair one tiny little dog can shed. When I had my Akita, Beowulf, he would blow his undercoat twice a year and the hair was EVERYWHERE, but it was soft fluffy poufs of hair... like little dust bunnies rolling around, lol. |

| Pippen is adorable, and I just think that you are so awesome for considering a rescue. I have a feeling this is meant to be, and she will be a wonderful addition to your home.

| I had two papillons (mum and son) a few years ago. I had to give them up cause I was so badly allergic to them . I had not had a dog for years and so when I got them I did not realize I had developed an allergy to dogs. They are usually very sweet lively dogs and so cute but they do shed tons of hair at least mine did. Just so you know cause yorkies do not. They need a lot of coat care . They can be yappy to and very high strung. The mum was very aggressive also with people coming in but I believe she was protecting her son even though he was not a tiny pup. Not knocking them though cause I loved those two and suffered the allergy for over a year but just could not deal wth it. Got them a perfect home with people who already had two females. Mine were both spayed and neutered when they left my home.Found out later they are being spoiled rotton good luck with your decision. Pippen is adorable Last edited by jacksonsmum; 12-19-2009 at 04:18 AM. |
