| A couple of questions... We have not gotten Buddy fixed yet and I had a couple of questions. First, we are keeping him in a long hair cut, and we have to bathe him every several days because he starts to get too stinky and gets what I call "pee dreadlocks" pretty quickly. I was hoping a neuter would cut down on the stregth of the order of his urine. Also, he is skiiiii-neeee! We keep his food bowl always filled and available to him. He can eat whenever and how much he wants, but he is just a little skinny guy. He was the runt of the litter. I was hoping that after he was neutured he would slow down and fatten up. Any truth to either? Oh, he is two. |

| The smell is most likely urine collecting on the hair when they lift their legs . I keep my boys bellies shaved and have noticed a change in the smell. My one boy did gain weight after his neuter 2 pounds infact

| Since he hasn't been neutered yet, I assume he has never had any bloodwork? Yorkies are prone to liver shunts so when a puppy is underweight, it is always a good idea to rule out liver disease. Dr. Center recommends that all Yorkies have a bile acids test after 20 weeks since Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined. How old is he? When are you planning on getting him neutered? Make sure you get that pre op bloodwork done as his liver must be healthy to filter the anesthesia. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey's breeder said that the trick with long hair is to create a "pee string" and keep this about 2 inches long coming from penis area. It doesn't need to be very thick, but the pee string acts as a wick to guide urine away from coat hair. Here's more info on pee string, see "grooming urination area." Welcome to Holly Huxford's Animal Page! Neutering does calm some dogs down so that they don't have so much "nervous energy," which can use lots of calories, and urine will not smell as strong.

| AWESOME! I thought the groomer would have a solution, but I am sure we could clean him up at home. Bye-bye belly hair...or maybe the pee string. We had him checked as a baby and they checked for a shunt. I understand that they can't handle the anesthesia if they have that problem. He just turned 2 so we will have to get him an annual checkup. I will make sure they do blood work again. Thank you so much for the help everyone! |
