Since he hasn't been neutered yet, I assume he has never had any bloodwork? Yorkies are prone to liver shunts so when a puppy is underweight, it is always a good idea to rule out liver disease. Dr. Center recommends that all Yorkies have a bile acids test after 20 weeks since Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined.

How old is he? When are you planning on getting him neutered? Make sure you get that pre op bloodwork done as his liver must be healthy to filter the anesthesia.
