| Day 7 with Layla and Bailey is acting WEIRD So we have had our new little girl Layla since Monday and we knew we were going to have issues with Bailey adjusting to the new addition. Day 1 we introduced them in the backyard and Bailey almost bit off poor Layla's ear. Bailey has never been aggresive EVER! Not with humans not with other dogs, she has always just been a even tempered sweet easy going girl. But she must have sensed that Layla was not just a temporary visitor but a permanent addition and felt threatened. We have been really good about giving Bailey extra attention and taking her for little walks and little car trips alone. On Thursday (day 4) Bailey finally could be in the same area as Layla without trying to attack her, Layla would run over to her and try to give her kisses and Bailey would just shun away from her and turn her head and ignor her or just run away. Yesterday (Saturday day 6) Bailey began to jump into Layla's play area and play (or thats what we thought at first) but the more we watch her the less we think shes playing and the more confused we get. She runs around growls at her and then straddles her. Thats all she does pretty much is just get herself on top of Layla and stay there with her whole body on top of Layla, if Layla moves Bailey re possitions herself over her again. We are thinking this is Baileys way of asserting dominance but it just seems weird. I tryed looking this up and couldnt find anything on it. Has anyone ever heard of this or perhaps your yorkie does it too? Do you know what this is? Will Bailey EVER play with Layla like she does other dogs or is this as good as its guna get? How long did it take for your first to get used to a second addition? I know Its alot of questions and I appreciate anyone that can answer any. Thanks in advance to all =)

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | I'm probably not the best person to answer this as I have only one yorkie but I did have a border collie up until this March and it did take a little time for her to adjust to my yorkie. It is definitely a dominance thing with one standing over the other , shes letting her know that she is in charge. The sooner you start walking them together things will improve I guarantee it .

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Sounds like bailey is asserting her dominance over Layla by standing over her or straddling her. i think she's coming along as expected. you said she's not attacking her anymore which is good. she know figures, ok if this thing is gonna stay here then i am boss over her. they'll probably start playing in a few days.

| I'll be interested to see the response you get and to hear how things are progressing. I'm soon to be in the same boat with the addition of a new puppy with our existing Westie - 3 years old and spoiled rotten. I feel like we are about to rock his world and am not sure he's going to like it! Good luck. It sounds like from the advice so far that things are moving along as they should be. One of my friends that added a second male dog to her existing male dog said that for the first month - things were rough and she told her husband numerous times that it was her or the new dog! But, after about a month, she said they play together and they are happy they got a 2nd dog. I'm sure you have had a very busy and somewhat stressful 7 days. I expect the same myself. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have 3 females and a female pom that passed earlier this year, and each time I brought one in they adjusted pretty quick but they definitley have a pecking order. Cali who was here first got along fine with my pom and when I brought Pixie in she was 13 months and Cali was 19 months and they got along but didn't play much together. Then I brought in Roxie from the same breeder as Pixie and they play fight all the time but they gang up on Cali all the time and sometimes they can get pretty mean, they corner her and pull her leg and grab her topknot. When they get too rough I have taught them to stop by saying give kisses and Roxie and Cali will lick each others faces and Pixie goes and lays down. Then 15 minutes later they are all snuggled up together. SO give them some time to work out there own hierarchy and just step in when needed.

| It does sounds as thought she is asserting domimance over your new puppy. When I brought Doodlebug home last summer Pebbles was horrible. Every time she was in the room with Dbugs all she would do was drool and bark in a very high pitched bark. It took several weeks before things calmed down. When I added Bogey shortly after that Dbug and Bog got along instantly but Pebbles will still get into his face and just bark. It all depends on their personalities and it will take a little time for everyone to adjust.

| 2!! I got Pebbles a year after Bogey. He wouldn't eat for days & wouldn't come out of the bedroom either. We just continued to work with him showing more attention & watched them together. Finally after months, they began to play together, they sleep in the bed with us, but don't fight over the same spot. He wants to be under the cover & she just wants to touch you on top of covers. She constantly wants to play & he's just interested some of the time, but she occupies herself when she needs to. My avatar is proof that 2 can be great together & he goes & looks for her & she does the same for him.

| I thought I would just give everyone an update on Bailey and Layla. Tomorrow marks the end of our second week with Layla and I have fantastic news. The last few days Bailey has REALLY warmed up to Layla, She now WANTS to be around Layla and even Initiates playtime with her. Yesterday Bailey was sleeping on my lap and Layla crawled on top of me and snuggled next to Bailey and Bailey woke up, gave her a little kiss and fell back asleep! It was the sweetest thing! I am soooo so happy Bailey came around! =)

| Jackson does the same thing to Tommy. He straddles him over his back and sometimes will even put him down on his back and stare at him.He will growl too at the same time.We let them work it out on their own but Jackson is not overly rough with Tommy. |
