I'll be interested to see the response you get and to hear how things are progressing. I'm soon to be in the same boat with the addition of a new puppy with our existing Westie - 3 years old and spoiled rotten. I feel like we are about to rock his world and am not sure he's going to like it!
Good luck. It sounds like from the advice so far that things are moving along as they should be.
One of my friends that added a second male dog to her existing male dog said that for the first month - things were rough and she told her husband numerous times that it was her or the new dog! But, after about a month, she said they play together and they are happy they got a 2nd dog.
I'm sure you have had a very busy and somewhat stressful 7 days. I expect the same myself.
