| New fence is shoddy Well the army finally got my new fence in. Its a piece of junk! So I need some help form my fellow YTers. They tore the ground up along the fence and the fence doesnt meet the ground. What can I do to keep my babies from walking under and out of the fence and how do I keep them from digging and playing in all that dirt?! We need to not do anything permant since we will eventually need to move (We think). Please help my babies want their yard back |

| Have you looked at Lowe's or somewhere like that for some wire fencing with really small holes that you could trim down and maybe staple to the bottom of the fence to keep it in place?

| When we bought our house there was a chain link fence. Our older two dogs (bailey the bassett, and Jefe the min pin/mix) were too large to ever get under a fence. Then we brought Preston home. He was in our neighbors yard daily for about two weeks. (thank goodness he was an extended family member! lol) Anyway, we tried several things, and finally ended up getting chicken wire, attaching it with wires, and left it just long enough that it was bent over at the bottom to encourage him not to dig. It worked out great. Now he is too big to get under the fence, but Paisley easily could, but never has because the chicken wire is still there. I would suggest attaching with staples (they can easily be removed later) and leave long enough to bend over to lay against the ground also. Only thing is, be sure when cutting the chicken wire to bend the cut pieces back on themselves so they are not sharp.

| Hi - We did the same thing on the fence when we got Cali Girl. Our backyard was so unlevel. There were some places that she could easily crawl out under, then there were places they have to dig out the ground, so the fence would be level straight across. We used a plastic coated wire, that had rectangles. I cut sections pieces off for what I needed to place in to fill up gaps. I stapled it to the bottom of the wood fence and the long straight pieces were staked into the ground. It works perfect. pwolfkill |

YT 1000 Club Member | Please becareful with these gaping fences. If you hired it done can you have them come back and fix it to make it right? There was a lady here a couple of weeks ago who bought a chi from a lady that lived about 45 minutes away. It's a sad thing because this little chi had had pups 8 weeks before she got it. The poor thing was scared to death in it's new surroundings and she took it out into her fenced in backyard. It kept running from her and she couldn't catch up to it. It found a place under her fence and got out. One day I saw traffic slowing down on the bridge in front of our house. Then I saw the chi. It ran towards the interstate and found a hole in that fence and went through. There is very tall grass on the other side of this fence and it was impossible to find it. We were all out there searching and never did find it or see again. I saw an ad in the local paper about it being lost so I'm assuming it's never been found. So sad that this happened. I'm not even sure as to why the poor thing had been seperated so early from it's pups and sold. Breaks my heart and the poor lady that bought her was pretty distraught. By the time I saw it I guess it had already been running for a few days. It just wouldn't let anyone near enough to catch it. The poor thing had to be starving, scared and dehydrated. Lot's of questions about this whole situation that I'm sure I'll never know the answers to. Just wanted to share this as to warn about problem fences. I guess some don't think to check for openings. I'm glad most of you are aware of it.

| I took these pics on my lunch break today. The chicken wire has been there for a year and a half now, so you can't really see where the fence is bent forward at the bottom to lay against the ground, as the grass has now grown over it. Only problem I have with it, as you can tell, some grass will grow between it and the chain link and make it hard to get with a weed eater. I included a pic of Preston next to it because I thought it was funny. Hard to believe he could have ever fit under that. The issue was that we had no grass when we bought the house (because there were so many trees that no light got through. lol) So between no grass, and the give that a chain link has, he could just push on the bottom and it would open enough to let him wiggle under.
