| Litter Box training... I would really like to litter box train our new pups. When I was young we had a mini schnauzer that was litter box trained but would also potty outside. I am going to buy everything next weekend but my main concern is the litter. My dad used plain cat litter and I know they use dog litter now. I am worried that whatever I use, if they eat it they may get sick. The lady at the pet store told me the dog litter absorbs the pee which means the litter swells. If my pup eats it can it cause damage because it will swell in their tummy? What litter is reccommended. My friend tried to litter train their dog with cat litter and they ate it making them throw up all he time. I just want to get something safe.Any ideas?

| i would recommend using pee pads. but if you prefer using litter. there are a couple out there that should work ok. one is 'yesterdays' news'. it's made with newspaper, so it shouldn't be harmful if the dog eats it.

| I agree. Uni is litter box trained but we put a pee pad inside instead. It's much cheaper than the litter pellets too. Dont use cat little b/c they will def eat it!

| Izzie is litter box trained also. I tried the dog litter but she wanted to eat it so I just put pee pads in the litter box - works great. |

| My Cookie is litter box trained and I was using the dog litter for a while but she ate it so I looked on line and found this great litter box from RASCAL DOG LITTER BOX COMPANY, LLC HOME PAGE. Now I have two of them and they are great. She loves thema dn they make it easy to train them to use the box and outside.

| They are so simple to clean. You can take the newspaper out a couple times a week and replace it and the grass it able to be put in the washer as long as you put it in a pillow case. I do that once a week. As long as you do that and pick up the poo as you see it you shouldn't have any smelly issues. It is great. I love it. The best part is that the dogs like it too.

| Thank you. The pups are currently pee pad trained. But I wanted to use a litter box because it seems that dogs that are pee pad trained tend to pee on anything soft such as carpet and rugs. We are going to be moving at the end of the year into a house with tile and I don't want them to start peeing on the rugs. So I figured I would go the litter box route but I am kind of scared to use the pellets. I don't really want to put a pee pad in the box (maybe at first to get them to use it) because I don't want to use pee pads at all really. Plus I line the bottom of there xpen with washable pads and then put the dispoable on top for now... so it would be nice to have a box to put in their that way they know.

| I just ordered one, I hope it works. Coco is almost 2 years old and still has lots of accidents. I have been trying to train her to use pee pads only, well she does what i've heard others do and pee's on rugs as well as her pee pad so it just doesn't seem to be a good option since my house is pretty much all wall to wall carpeting. I really want to get her trained to go outdoors and I think this rascal grass litter box will be a good alternative. When it comes I plan to start her right off like she is a baby put and get the crate out, I will keep the litter box in the garage if all goes as planned and hope that I can get her trained to either use that in the garage or go outdoors. I'm really really hoping this works because I really need new carpeting and hate the idea of replacing it all and having her have accidents all over it.

| From the website I seen that there is a drainage grid under the grass, you line the bottom of the pan with newspapers to absorb the urine. You can machine wash the grass, they show to wash it inside a pillowcase. I'm certain that even if it needs to be replaced at some point it would work out to be less expensive then pee pads
