| Designer Dogs = MUTTS I am so upset about these "Designer Dogs". These dogs are MUTTS. If you want a mutt, go to the pound and rescue one. I can't believe that people are paying 500, 600 or even 1500 for a MUTT!!! I have nothing against mixed breeds. I have two, but it completely bewilders me that people are willing to pay SO much for a mixed breed. My neighbor paid 450/ea for her two yorki-poo's. In the end, no matter what you call them, the bottom line is that they are mutts and you are getting RIPPED OFF by these breeders!!! The pound has a smorgasboard of Designer Dogs!!!! This is NOT directed at anyone in particular. I just had to vent!

| If shelter were really clever they should give all their "mutts" clever designer names instead of calling them "chihuahua mix" or whatever.... I guess they dont always know what type it is. But they should just guess and give the dog a name and then they will get adopted

| You won't get an argument outta me! I wish all breeders would take the time to visit just their local shelter before bringing any two dogs together to create more, just because they CAN. Then multiply the heartbreak times a few thousand and really deliberate on the WHY of breeding. |

| I agreed, I think breeding two different breeds is wrong. I think if you want a mix, the best bet is to adopt form a shelter. In the so call "designer breeds" websites they say that this hybrids are more healthy than a pure bred. I have read is the opposite but they trick people to sell this pups at high prices. |

Btw...I do agree with this post - I love mixes - all dogs actually - but not intentionally jacking up prices with a cute name and intentionally breeding more dogs just because we have a designer craze going on - Many of these breeders hopping on the bandwagon are just throwing together all sorts of mixes and creating MORE potential shelter/unwanted dogs. | |

| "Sortayork"! This is a great one! Im guessing the breeder's are continuing to sell these mixed breed dogs at high prices because there continues to be buyers for them!!?? I personally love mixed breed dogs, I personally love pure breed dogs. I just wish for breeding/selling regulations towards this all.

| I agree that breeders shouldn't hike up their prices just because a dog is a "designer breed" and has a cute name, but on the other hand - I don't think it's fair to insult the people who intentionally buy these dogs. It's really their business how much they want to pay for a puppy. I know lots of people who paid well over $1000 for their purebred Yorkies. Biddy is a mix and if I knew then what I know now I would have paid over $2000 for her. I didn't pay that much for her - but the amount of love I have for her is invaluable. I think the value of a dog is equal to the amount of pleasure you get out of it, regardless of breed. For me they are priceless.

| I dont prefer mixed breeds myself but can understand when someone is looking for something in particular and wants a mixed breed. I think the mixed breeds I have seen on here are cute.

| I'm sorry to post again, but these comments really bother me. I find it really offensive that Biddy is called a "mutt". I come on YorkieTalk because it is the one place that I can come and talk about my babies without feeling bad about it. My family makes fun of me because I talk about my dogs like children. It makes me feel horrible (I am the only one of 4 siblings that does not have children and they don't understand the love I have for my dogs). People at work think I'm crazy because I have pictures of my dogs all over my cube. So I come on YT to feel normal. It it REALLY hurts my feelings when people criticize my dog - especially on here, the only place that accepts my dogs like I do. Or so I thought...

I agree with you - I don't think it's nice to call mixed breeds MUTTS. I think mutt is a mean term. I volunteer at a shelter and we never calls our mixed dogs mutts -- they're simply mixed breed dogs. Some of the most beautiful and loving dogs are mixes. Codie and Katie send hugs and kisses to Biddy!

| I don't think she meant to insult anyone...but I think what she was saying is that there are tons of mixed breed animals in shelters....that people could get a mixed breed animal for a small adoption fee through a shelter and shouldn't be paying these high prices and getting ripped off...IMO..that is what I got from her post, I don't think it meant to offend anyone
