Wink Shopping List

So before I bring home my puppy I need to go to Petsmart (even tho I wont get her for 4 more weeks, but I have got to do something productive while I wait lol) and I was trying to think of all the things I need to get.... Here's my list so far, feel free to help me or correct me!
Food (same kind as breeder)
a blanket for inside her kennel
a kennel
dinner dishes (portable ones too, since the drive home will be 1.5 hrs?)
a collar, harness, and lead
assortment of combs (any tips on what kinds?)
nail clippys
puppy shampoo
a toothbrush/ puppy toothpaste?
toys
treats ( I may get some bully sticks if they're ok for puppies to have. && I heard cheerios are good for training.. are they? What does everyone else use for training)
an ID tag

I used cheerios when we got Emmie. Sydney our older yorkie was not to impressed with the cheerios to start with, but now as soon as they use the pad they want the cheerios.

I don't know if you plan on taking her places with you, but I have a bag for Couver for when we go places, so he can be in there and safe. Also, if you want them to like it, you should probably start putting her in it early.

I also agree about the pee pads... It is nice to know that if they cannot hold it any longer while you are gone, they have an alternative.

Great list I would also suggest you get the blanket at babies r us it will be half the price and softer also get a baby gate there as well. A good rule to remember is if what you are buying is used for both a baby and a puppy by it at the baby store for some reason it is much less expensive. Since you are not getting your pup for a few weeks speak to the breeder and ask if you can send the blanket in advance so that it comes home with something that smells familiar.

You might also want to get:

A seat belt or car seat for when riding in the car
unscented baby wipes
Ask the breeder what type of food they are feeding and if they will be sending home some with you, some not all use Eukanuba, or puppy chow not the best food, and you might want to switch foods wich you need to do very very gradually. Also could be using a food not readily available in your area these are things you need to know in advance.

More than 1 blanket may come in handy. We use tons around here.
Children's Benadryl
Towels
Thermometer would be nice
Eye wash (just the sterile water type) may be good to have
Ear cleaner (can get from the vet)

Maybe a Xpen, because if she is anything like my Baxter was as a baby, he was faster than a speeding bullet, and more powerful than a locomotive. lol. Just to keep her safe, and give you a break from chasing her.

Sounds like a good list but be sure to add NutriCal. I think different brands have different names but you need it or Karo syrup on hand. When our puppy came home, she didn't eat well for a couple of days due to the transition.

Get some kind of doggy bed or sherpa pad for the floor of her kennel, too. Mine has little beds several places and although she sometimes chooses her kennel/crate, she also loves to hap in her little beds.

Mine also loves the mini-carrots. I have a health nut, I think. Anyway, I think the coolness helps her gums and she loves the carrots. I got her to eat those before she'd even eat kibble! Plus, I think she knows alot of words but I KNOW she knows the word carrot.

I'd get some chicken and brown rice to have on hand, too, in case you have to tempt her to eat for a little while after you get her home. I found those 2 things vital for the first couple of days. Also, since you'll be making a trip to the grocery store, get some plain (unspiced), canned pumpkin to have on hand in case she needs it. I stirred some up in her chicken and rice both when her stomach was upset and when I'd overdone the feeding of cheese. It works like most fiber does for either kind of stomach upset.

You might want to get a collar (I got a cat's breakaway) with a bell on it it...at least for first so you can hear where she is. This was important for us since we were not used to having to watch where we stepped.

You seem to have a great list of items. I bought so many things we did not need/use while I waited the months before we got Taffy. I think you've got a good grasp of what you need. Can't wait to see your pictures and hear your tales!

I must have been writing my "novel" when you posted. Definitely she needs this and I sometimes found it sold out! I found it at Target when I couldn't get it at a pet store...NutriCal.

Nutra-Cal

Also you might want to take a wet washcloth or two in case of spit ups AND carry an empty container to get some water that she is used to drinking so that she will have the same water on the way home.

Yes!! If I had to do it all over again, I'd get an xpen and not baby gates! Esp for the teething phase! If you gate them into a room so they don't eat your house, they will eat your room. I highly suggest you get an xpen to use indoors to put your pup during potty training and again during the teething stage when they chew on everything from shoes to your walls!

I second the expen idea! It helps a lot when you aren't home. I got June one and she now considers it her own little space where she can do as she likes. Also, get a cover for the floor underneath the expen - I just bought some vinyl (the plastic tablecloth type) and put the plastic side on the bottom.

I know some people think that it is unnecessary, but since we are in the potty training stage where there is no bladder control, I made June some panties. They hate going in them, so she is learning that the only place that she likes to potty is on her pads. I would also recommend washable pee pads - good for the environment and for your budget. (I also made these for very cheap).

Definitely chew toys to relieve boredom. And maybe something to keep her warm when you aren't there - Petstages has a nice toy that you just put in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Also, get a placemat for the food dishes - the pups can get messy.

Congrats on your baby and good luck.

Ps. Read everything you can about potty training. You will need it!

It can be used for reactions after vaccinations if it isn't serious enough to go to the vet, bee stings, etc. It should be kept around as a precaution for allergic reactions that can be very dangerous.
