| Sweet Yorkie + Rawhide = Psychotic Devil Dog I always brag to friends and family about how laid back and mild mannered my little Silvia is. She is always so sweet and never begs for food, other than just staring at you with those big puppy dog eyes. Well........I'm about to eat my words! Please witness her tranformation from sweet to psychotic in 2.2 seconds! Notice that she is completely sane and wagging her tail in the beginning.......then she appears to black out and go into a psychotic rage over protecting the rawhide from the evil Daddy............then at the magical mention of a "TREAT" she is calm and happily wagging her tail again! Do you think she needs some puppy Haldol?!

| I am sure she is very sweet. I hope you don't mind me saying, thats a little scary. I was concerned that she would bite your husbands hand. She was just a tad aggressive. (In that situation.) That would scare me, and I don't know what to say beyond that. She is cute! |

| That was scary. I am not sure I would give a treat after that. Does she just do it with the rawhide?

| My goodness! She certainly was not going to give up her rawhide. I thought for sure your husband was going to lose his hand Than instantly she mellowed out. i've never seen a dog change so quickly. How come you were trying to take the raw hide away from her? I give my Yorkie Bully Sticks. They are 100% digestable. Raw Hides are not and can be dangerous to small dogs because they can lodge in their throats or not digest them properly. Were you guys finally able to get the raw hide?

| Ummm??? Don't want to sound like a bad (bitchy) poster, but looks like you're rewarding her for being ag\reeisve and "protecting" her chew toy? So you're encouraging her bad behavior and reinforcing it. Michele :-) |

We didn't give her the rawhide on purpose, because we know how she reacts to them. I had a friend over who thought she was being nice by bringing Silvia a little gift. She had no idea how Silvia acted with them. When we tried to tell her, she didn't believe us, so that's why we gave it to her, to let my friend see why she can't have them. We only let her keep it long enough to video it, because I'm always telling people how she acts and they don't believe me. We never give rawhides as a treat because I do agree that they are dangerous, on top of the fact that she goes insane over them. And notice that DH is able to pet her and she never nips, it's all a show on her part. He reached right in and got the rawhide after we "snapped her out of it" by mentioning a REAL treat. Quote:
Actually, what we gave her the treat for was for STOPPING the behavior so quickly and for NOT biting.

| I don't know I just don't see the humor in this post. You, as her owner, should be able to take that rawhide and then give it back to her without her getting so agressive. I always put my hand in my babies food bowl when they are eating. I take away their bone when they are chewing on it. I just say Let me see this then I give it right back. I try to discourage that agressive behavior. Sorry I don't think it's funny. That's just me. To each his own.

YT 1000 Club Member | You can clearly see she's not going to bite your DH. If you wouldn't have described the whole story I can see where some would be a little horrified by it. I have seen Roxie do something very similar (not quite that aggressive) and it's usually to my almost 13 year old. She loves him and kisses him and is always so happy to see him but there are times when she's done something to this affect with him when she doesn't want to be bothered (when she's sleeping mostly). You know how it is sometimes when you just can't resist petting them when they are so sweetly sleeping next to you? Not all of the time but sometimes she'll do a little nip thing to him. I have no idea why she never does this to me or anyone else. I discourage it totally and am usually a little stunned by the behavior. I really think it's just that she gets startled. It's not a huge problem for it rarely happens and I correct it on the spot. Glad your not encouraging it and can see she wants it enough to protect it and try to keep him from taking it away.

| Wow! I'm sorry that I ever posted this. It just goes to show how different someone can perceive things, I guess. It's a game, people, that's all. It's no different than sitting a treat on the nose and a dog tossing it up to catch it, it's just another trick: we give her a rawhide, she growls, we take it away, she doesn't. She is not this way with anything else, no other treats, no toys, nothing, just the rawhide, which we never give her. We can put our hands all around her when she's like that and she won't do anything but show her teeth and growl, she's never made contact with anyone. She's just trying to act mean, which I personally find amusing since she is only 2lb 14oz. I also put my hand in her food bowl when eating. I also take her toys and treats away when she is chewing on them and she never reacts. I also discourage agressive behavior. It's not like I sit around all day making her act the way she is in the video. It was a demonstration to show someone her strange behavior in a particular situation, that most find fascinating, since she changes so quickly. I also took the video down to my vet, whom I've told about the behavior and she didn't believe me. It was just a proof of behavior type thing that I found interesting and decided to share. Don't worry, faint of heart, I have learned my lesson and will never share anything again for fear of being chased with pitchforks and fire. Interestingly enough, I've had several private messages sent to me from people that DID find the video interesting and even amusing because of her little "split personality", but these individuals where scared to post in the thread, for fear of causing animosity. Seriously, guys, this is a forum, it's not meant to antagonize and belittle people, it's supposed to be a place to share. I shared. Now, if you don't agree with it, I truly apologize, because it was never my intention to offend or horrify anyone with my incredibly horrible parenting antics. Here's an easy solution...........don't post a reply. It's that easy. Life is just too short for all this anxiety over a silly little internet forum video. My posting days are over. Thanks for that..........really.

| Woah, I don't think you need to stop posting on the forums because of this. I can see how people can be scared of that and think it's NOT funny. But once you explain the whole story, you can understand.

| When you post on a public forum, we have the right to our own opinion. Don't be upset because I don't agree with your little "game" I wasn't "horrified" I just didn't think it was funny. What you did was quite different than a dog being startled from a dead sleep. Sorry if you don't like my opinion, but I am certainly entitled to it.

| I think that people do have a right to an opinion, being that this is a forum. But-my opinion changed when you explained the whole story. Just sayin'. I would not give up YT because some people disagree with me. There are tons of people and tons of different opinions on YT. I am sure she is a doll-I didn't know the whole story at first-so I was unsure of how to take the video. I don't see pitchforks and fire either. Just a few people posting concerns or opinions. No personal attacks made. Really-you should stick around. Each member is invaluable to the knowledge gained on this forum.
