| Yorkie puppy freezing to death! i am so incredibly heartbroken. I bought a little AKC female yorkie from a good breeder in my area. we had a big snowstorm a few days ago and the lady said her power went out. they were snowed in and had no way to contact anyone. she said that it got too cold and that my puppy as well as a brand-new one died because they were too cold. my puppy was only almost 1lb. at 10 weeks. i don't know how this happened. i don't live very far from her and our power went out too,but there was not even the slightest chance of anyone freezing to death. she has offered me a little AKC yorkie in exchange, but she said she is mahogany colored puppy. have you ever heard of that color from purebred AKC yorkies? i haven't... |

| Oh my gosh! That's terrible! I'm so sorry. She couldn't have bought some sort of a small generator with a heat lamp or something? That seems so fishy to me that she would let two pups die. And such a tiny puppy!

| So sorry to hear about the little ones! However, that sounds a little fishy to me....I would just ask for a full refund.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | That story sounds susipious to me as well....if it is true...that is horrifying, and I wouldn't characterize her as a "good" breeder. The mahogany colored puppy may be what is usually referred to as "chocolate" and yes, sometimes that color does occur. It is considered a color fault though.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Keep looking Hon,I'm not that familar with breeding, but I know if I was to put that time and money into it,you bet I would have a generator,or I get them in my car and do whatever was needed to get them safe and warm. I would find another breeder. I'm so sorry that you had to go through all of this.

| omg, that is tragic, sometime does not seem right to me on this.. however if true it is something no breeder would want to happen to them.. would we all be prepared.. we do have a generator. I feel bad for you with such a disappointment.... I am thinking a generator would be an appropriate piece of equaipment to have if hydro is known to go down in certain areas.. anne |

| Did you sign a contract? I would tell her that I wanted my money back, in full. Edited to add: She needs to prove her story to you through her insurance claim/reports, vet. report, *something*. It smells very fishy. She could have sold that dog 3 times over! Please keep us posted. Last edited by AF Diva; 02-18-2009 at 07:57 AM. Reason: See post. |

| Sorry to hear about the puppies. As everyone already said it does not sound right that the puppies just died. They could have wrap them in blankets or do whatever it takes to keep them safe. If I was you I will ask for my money back and get another yorkie but one that you pick not one offered by the other breeder. |

| I agree with other posters. Something doesn't sound right here. Body heat alone would have kept them warm. I'd get my money back and look elsewhere. People own blankets, pillows, sweatpants, towels etc.. Strange

| This is horrible, if true. I don't think any "good" breeder could/would allow a puppy to freeze to death. The whole thing sounds off to me...I agree with everyone else who said to request a full refund.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Hmmm very strange, when my pups were about 3 weeks we lost power for a few hours and I don't have a generator, I put taffy in the whelping box with the pups and wraped a heavy blanket around the box to keep it warm and the babies were fine.. mom kept them warm for the time we were without power. I will ask for a refund too.. something is definetaly not right.. hugs, cArmen in nj |

| I don't have any expeirence with breeding but I would have to say that seems unacceptable from a "good" breeder's standpoint. Breeding puppies means you know how to take care of them and if they had this oversight, how many other oversights have they made with the puppy they are offering?? I would continue to search... good things come to those who wait! Sorry you went through that. Walter |

| Omg!!! What a horrible thing to have to go through!! I agree with the other posters, it sounds fishy. I don't know much about breeding, but a generator, the car, lots of warm blankets, just plain snuggling with them . . . anything to keep them safe! I would ask for my money back in full! I'm sooooo sorry to hear this happened to you! |
