| Why do you like big dogs better? this is probably the wrong forum to ask this question, since yorkies are small doggies, but i am asking anyways. so i have met quit a few people that say that milu is very cute but they don't like small dogs - they like bigger dogs. so i would always ask them "why don't you like small dogs?" i never get a good answer out of these people. the best answer i have gotten is from one guy that said because small dogs always bark at everyone and everything. and then the owners always react by picking them up and saying "it's ok" which makes the dogs think it's right to be scared blah blah blah...i know he is totally generalizing. but it's the best response i have ever got.... so, do you know why some people don't like small dogs?

| most people I have met think that little dogs aren't 'real' dogs. Big dogs are manly or something- and probably most people had big dogs as children- now that smaller dogs are more popular- those who are used to big dogs just can't adjust. BUT that said- my dad was ALL- BIG DOG but he loves Layla SO much- i don't think they would ever own a big dog again! |

| I WAS a big dog person. Chows and GSD...I used to think little dogs didn't serve any purpose. They couldn't be good watch dogs, kind of a waste of the word dog (I believe i remember saying that) HOWEVER!!! God smiled down on me and the light of Yorkie love has warmed our home!!! My dogs are so well behaved, they actually get to come to our corporate office sometimes...now I can't imagine a big dog in our home. And I wouldn't have the pleasure of 5 of us all sleeping in bed together.

| I always grew up with huge dogs - German shepherds, Labradors, Golden retrievers, Siberian huskies, the works...my pup Ollie is my first small dog in my entire life. I had a very strong bias against small dogs because almost all the small dogs I've ever met have been a) spastic/yappy, b) timid/neurotic, or c) ridiculously aggressive. But I've changed my mind since, because my small dog is getting well-trained/socialized and he is not yappy or aggressive. But I understand why big dog people don't like small dogs...small dogs get away with so much stuff people wouldn't tolerate in a big dog. Like biting. |

| My daughter loves big dogs, esp golden retrievers and we had 2 of them while she was growing up (although she owns and dearly loves her little silky now!). She always says she loves snuggling up with them because they are so big and keep her warm! LOL And she likes feeling the weight of their paws or head on her lap...just like she likes the weight of a heavy blanket. She hopes to have a great dane some day! Since we're talking about liking big dogs...I want to share an incident that surprised me and made me sad and still bothers me. I took my furbaby Toby (r.i.p.) to the same grooming shop for 4 years...he was terrible at the groomer's, absolutely hated it. This is a small pet store that has a groomer that works on consignment I think; they had 3 different groomers there during that 4 years and he didn't like being groomed by any of them! I always had to stay during the grooming and help hold him down and keep him as calm as possible. So I was soooo relieved when the lady I got Olivia from said that she was groomed at the same place and did fine. I called the groomer (this is the new, 3rd groomer now) just to verify, and here are the groomer's exact words: "Olivia....? Oh yeah, that little bitty dog. Well she did ok, she is kind of old. She just sat there shivering like those little dogs do. Myself - I'm a big, get-in-your-face dog kind of person. Little dogs don't do much for me. But she did ok." I decided to not take Olivia there...I'd rather go to PetSmart where at least the people are smart enough to not blow off about not liking your breed of dog!!! Maybe I over-reacted, but it just didn't feel right.

| I love big and small dogs. Each have qualities that I like. Not to start a debate or anything but these are my own personal opinions. For example I like big dogs because they are "more" sturdy IMO. I like that with a big dog you can take them out for a long jog/walk. You can wrestle and not worry to much about hurting a big dog. They are just great and huge sucks! I love little dogs though and I feel they fit MY lifestyle more because I enjoy taking my dog with me out to stores ( that don't kick me out lol ) I travel pretty often and I can bring my small dog with me. Smaller accidents to clean up. They don't eat as much lol. And they fit on your lap so nicely! lol |

Thor's Human Donating Member | I agree with Bikkhu. If you own a big dog that jumps on people, barks incessantly, growls at strangers, isn't house broken, and occasionally bites children, you have a major problem that you pretty much have to take care of. If you have a small dog that does this, you might even think it's cute, even though everyone else will hate it. I remember an ex-boyfriend whose sister and husband and a lap dog. We would visit them once a month, and it would sit next to me on the couch and bark, and bark, and bark at me. And bark. Every so often, the sister would half-heartedly tell her to stop. Man, I hated that dog. And I thought on some level my boyfriend's sister was telling me that I wasn't welcome there. I used to live in New York, home of a million "rat" dogs. Now, I see it differently - I feel bad for all the small dogs out there that go crazy because their owners don't bother to care for them the was a big dog demands. And I see all the wonderful things a well-trained small dog has to offer. I still love a lot of larger breeds, but it's hard to have a Labrador sit on your lap. |

| People who say they prefer big dogs probably haven't had a small dog yet. I was one of those people. I never would have thought I would want a small dog. Now I will never be without one. Or two actually.

| My husband and I actually used to breed pit bulls ( we are on a break but still own 3 of them and co-own some others ) anyhow we DID NOT LIKE SMALL DOGS AT ALL!! EITHER OF US... My reason was mostly because I thought they were pointless and just there to look cute, they were yappy/snappy and most I've seen were plain SPOILED. Thier owners gave us looks when their "little" dogs decided to run up and snap at our precious pitty babies at the dog park... UMM EXCUSE ME .. YOU'RE THE ONE WITH THE CRAZY DOG!!! one lady even said "No, No JuJu get away from the mean dog with the clipped ears" lol WHAT IS THAT?? my dog was just playing with another dog and a ball, anyhow that is why I was biased.. ...until we got a Yorkie.. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MUCH LOVE THIS LITTLE GUY HAS TO GIVE! ( I am sure you all know ) All I want to do is cuddle and love him, my husband ADORES him, everyone he comes into contact with wants to babysit him and ask for him when we come over.. he is so smart and definately serves a purpose in our home. I love my pit bulls and wouldn't trade them for the world.. but I now see that small dogs are just as rewarding! In a lot of ways, Yorkies are like pit bulls in their loyal and loving tempermant but 1/4 the size! they even have the fiesty attitude a pit bull has .. lol GUCCI swears he is 90lbs of pure muscle haha |

| I was never a dog lover , especially Big dogs ...so I guess I don'tfit the 'big dog lover' category..... But we had both big and small dogs when I was growing up , most of them big. The big ones we had were Dobermans(5) and a German Shepherd and a Dalmation. The Dobermans and G. Shepherd were my brother's dogs and he liked them because they could handle his roughhousing and playing. My brother loved them. I on the other hand was terrified of everyone of them except the German Shepherd. So I guess I am more of a little dog lover because I honestly feel ...heck I could outrun it if it went all Cujo on me

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I ADORE small dogs (obviously) and I will now always have one. But I prefer big dogs (don't shoot) because I think you can have more fun with them. Small dogs are great snuggle dogs, etc., but a big dog...you can wrestle with him/her, you don't have to worry as much about them getting hurt really easily, you don't have to worry about them getting carried off by some coyote or hawk or something. They're just a lot less stressful and they aren't fragile. and some (SOME) little dog owners are OVER spoiling their dogs. Tucker is plenty spoiled, but he doesn't get praised if he barks at someone that doesn't deserve to be barked at, while some people will be like "oh how cute!" you know what I mean? It's not a thing of big dogs being more "manly" they're just more carefree, I guess. Little dogs are like babies, big dogs are like 10 year olds. At least, that's how I see it.
