| new Yorkie Pup:) Hi , i am very new to the world of Yorkshire puppyhood. We just brought home a little 8 week old female today. She is 3 pounds and absolutely adorable. She did get car sick on the way home though and vomited all over my son. But, she seems to be ok. This very small yorkie, I think is right now, timid. She has not eaten yet either, and does not seem to be too playful YET .I think it is because of the new enviroment. i did take her outside and she went potty. Both, 1 and 2 . She seems alert, clear eyed, too. She just wants to kick back though. IS that normal for a new pup? Is it just because this is all new to her? Any suggestions on how to help her feel , more at ease? She is round, and not thin at all and looks very healthy. I am a nervous, NEW puppy owner. Any help on how I can not worry? LOL . She is so cute. This little pup has had her first couple of shots and has been wormed. We named her Suzi. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Hi, welcome to Yorkietalk! Yes, it sounds normal, Joey made it all the way home and then in the drive way . . . he barfed. Suzi is a cute name for a yorkie, and I can't wait to see some pictures.

| to YT and congrats on your new addition to your family!! It seems like you've got yourself a healthy baby there... Just give her time to adjust, and its normal for her to want to kickback... At that age they just eat, sleep and poop, LOL... At least you you've got this wonderful pace where you can get informed and educate yourself... I just found out about YT recently, I've had to educate myself by literature, and its not the same as actual advise from experienced owners... There is so much Love in here... | Welcome to YT. Hope you learn as much as I have since I have joined. Just want to suggest something that I have read over and over. When puppies are so young sometimes they don't want to eat very well and get low blood sugar called hypoglycemia. Some suggestions that have been given are rubbing Karo syrup or honey on their gums if they seem to lethargic. Always check the gums to see if they are pink. You can also buy a product called Nutri-cal. There are others on this forum that will be able to give you more advice. Just thought I would mention this problem because there have been so many little babies that have gone through some tough times because of hypoglycemia. Good luck with your new furbaby!

| Congratulations on your new baby girl...Suzi...cute name, I love it. They are a bit laid back at first. But it won't be long and she'll be doin' the zoomies...running around like crazy, for no apparent reason. I always find it comforting to these tiny ones to get down to their level, lay on the floor with her, let her climb all over you. She'll become your best friend before you know it. Oh yes, and don't forget they like to get under foot...so learn the Yorkie shuffle so you don't accidentally step on her. Good luck...and welcome to YT!!!

| thank you very much for all of your kind words and advice. To tell you the truth I am scared to own such a tiny puppy and want to be the best human parent I can be. i have purchased my first doggie book on Yorkshires. It did mention the low blood sugar. This terrifies me . I am a single parent and my my son is nearly 15 now..... Little Suzi Q is like starting all over again having a baby. LOL. i have all those Motherly instinsts kicking in overdrive again, and of course the worries. She is a little sweetheart though. I had her outside a few times today and I think it was her first time on the grass. She loved it, but every time she was there she would just kick back. I would have to put her on the walk path and then she would be mobile. I want her to be socialized and be a well adjusted puppy. I am fortunate to have found this site. Lucky for me and Suzi. One of the things that kept me coming back to this particular breed was their little teddy bear faces as a pup. I have never seen anything more precious. i do see already though how independant these little pupps are and they are definately clever. Is pancake syrup ok for her to have? I do not have The Karo yet? I am worried about her not eating yet, and then vomiting from the car ride. Thanks. |

| Pancake syrup works just fine...if she's drinking, you could add just a drop or two to her water bowl...if you're worried about her blood sugar. Will she feed out of your hand? Do you have the same food the breeder had her on? I think she's just a bit nervous in her new surroundings, and that she'll eat when she settles down . Just be sure when she sleeps that you are able to arouse her...if she gets lethargic and doesn't wake up easily her sugar may be too low...then rub a bit of syrup on the roof of her mouth and gums. Not too much, they often puke afterwards, a little goes a long way...and she's still tiny. Rest well, kiss Suzi good-night!

| Hello & Welcome to YT! Your little Suzi will adjust well over the next few days. My lil pup was the same way. He was very shy and unsure of everything for the first several days.....at least you got her to go to the bathroom. My pup didn't do that for quite awhile & that started to concern me. So she is off to a good start. Keep her close to you as much as possible and like the others said...lots of praise. She will identify you as her mom by your voice and smell and she will begin to cling to you very closely. Do you have other pets? A cat perhaps? My pup took to my cat as his four legged brother although it took the cat quite a bit longer to warm up to the puppy but they are great buds now. Also, for socialization, I recommend a puppy kindergarten class....my vet provided one for pups that had not finished their puppy vaccinations with the supervision of a vet but I also know that PetsMart has great classes after you complete her series of puppy shots. Best of luck & Congratulations!!!

| It was Suzi's first night in her new home. I thought she would like to be on my bed, however, I noticed she seemed a little stressed . I took her into the kitchen where her food and water is. SURE enough she drank and drank out of her bowl. Earlier in the evening I decided to give her little bits of chicken. SHe ate right out of my hand! I decided to let her do whatever she wanted. Cause I read that A yorkie is very smart and independant. I woke up early and saw her up and around, and then went back to bed. THen when I got up again I went straight in and checked her food. YEP, she had eaten. I know she is ok now. I have gotton tail wags from her when I talk to her. IT is the cuteset thing in the world! I have to take picturs of her today and post them here. Suzi did have a bath last night too. She looks much better now. lol. I am trying to let her get use to stuff on her own terms. Not to push . She definatley has her own way of doing stuff. I kept her on the exact same food her breeder had her on. Tommorow, I need to get her city lincesned and a puppy check up. I have not told you guys this, SUZI is considered a "service animal" She is at our place because both myself and child are fully disabled. This makes her a very, very special animal. SHe is going to go to puppy kindergarten for certain. AND any other classes too. |

| It sounds like she just needs a little time to adjust to her new home. It may help if you can coax into eating by hand feeding her. The most important thing is to makes sure she drinks water and doesn't get dehydrated but don't let her go too long before eating. 8 weeks is a little young to bring a baby home but just keep an eye on her. You can try hand feeding her a bit of meat (like some ham or chicken) or a few cheerios if you have some to get her gut going; just don't let her make a meal of it. Being 3 pounds at 8 weeks, your puppy should grow to be in the 9 pound range according to the growth chart. What concerns me is that you state she has had 2 rounds of shots already. She should have just had her first set by this age. I would advise you to take her to your vet (tomorrow if possible) for a wellness check. Take the health record the breeder provided you with you. Congratulations and good luck with your little girl!! |
