| Reminder to watch for hawks or buzzards! My husband and I had our boys outside for a bit this evening, and my husband looked up and noticed three hawks circling our yard. We picked the boys up and brought them in. There seem to be lots of hawks and buzzards out this year where we live. Just thought I'd post a reminder, as I know that these birds can swoop down and grab the smaller dogs.

| I see hawks every now and then. My boys are bigger but I still watch out for them. Let me ask this..... I thought buzzards were scavengers and didn't eat live things. There are a lot of those here. Does anyone know if that's true

| Turkey Buzzards / Turkey Vultures are scavengers... they don't hunt anything alive...but Hawks, Eagles & Owls will all snatch a yorkie in a second if they are hungry.

As for if they will eat something live, I'm not sure if they would kill to eat. I'm just not willing to take any chances with my guys. Jake is really tiny, so I'm always extra careful with him.

| I was out mowing the lawn for the first time this year and the kids were out too enjoying the sunshine. A hawk flew right passed me and caught a robin. Scared me to death so in the house went my babies. I've noticed alot of them this spring around here. |

| I am so glad you posted this warning. We have 100 acres of woods behind our house, so we see a great deal of wildife around here. With my 5 mo. yorkie, I've been petrified of the hawks, as I have been warned. I was going to ask if it has happened to anyone to find how much of a problem it is. I suppose I was hoping to relieve some of my fear, but after reading this post realize it is real and I have reason to be a pacing mommie when she's outside. I want her to enjoy the outdoors so I let her out when the kids are out in the yard, but find myself on the porch keeping watch. What's the balance? Trixie had a blast running around the yard yesterday with our "old man" Westie, "Rascal," and all the kids. I'd like to be able to let her out when the kids are out but can't always be there. I suppose I should bring my baby in when I can't be out there, right? |

| I was coming home the other day from town, I went around a curve when something flew up from the side of the road-ditch like area. It was a hawk so I honked my horn which scared it & it dropped a HUGE rat, it just fell through the air which wasn't very high when I honked. I've NEVER seen anything like that before. |

| I know that the 'Common Buzzard' that we get here in the UK will feed on live Rabbits and other small mammals..also other birds occasionally. Never heard of any Birds Of Prey taking small dogs in this country though?( I hope!) I see a pair of Buzzards flying quite high in the sky from my garden almost everyday...but i don't think they are a threat..we have alot of farmland around here and i'm pretty sure they are more interested in the Rabbits!

| I also wonder how bold hawks (and owls I suppose) are. Is it enough protection for me to stand in the yard, on the deck, or should I have her on a leash when she's outside? It's a very scarey thing for me. |

| I would imagine that the hungrier they are, the bolder they are. I have mine on leashes when we're outside, but I also let them run free in a very large gated area. I am always with them when we're out. If I see hawks, I just take my babies in until their gone.

| Thank you for the timely reminder. With spring here our furbabies are wanting to have more outside time. I always scan the sky before letting any of my crew outside even when they are just on our covered porch. |
