I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Bow Size? How do you decide which size bow for your Yorkie? Is there a rule of thumb? I purchased adult size bow 7/8, but now I think it may be too big and the 5/8 size better. Any opinions?

| I make and sell bows and the general rule is that the 5/8" double looped bows are best for a 4-10 dog which includes most Yorkies and Maltese. For the tinier ones, a single looped 5/8" bow is better and for puppies I recommend a 3/8" bow. It is of course a personal preference, but the 7/8" bows are usually recommended for the larger breeds like Shih Tsus, Llasos, etc. I never get requests for the 7/8" bows so I don't even bother carrying them.

| I use 3/8. I don't like my bows to be as wide as the head. Katie is 6lbs.

How big is he? If he's on the larger side, maybe you can get away with the 7/8" inch bows. You never know, maybe you'll like the look. I always get asked to make smaller bows than the double looped 5/8" bows, never larger. They say never get requests for them even though I'm sure some of their customers must own the larger breeds.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Ruby is under 4lbs, with a smaller petite sized head, and I prefer either a 3/8ths double or 5/8ths single loop. Reno isn't much over 4lbs but just has a larger shaped head and much more hair than Ruby. He can wear a 5/8ths either single or double loop bow, a smaller one on him looks undersized.

I meant to say I sell bows to several local boutiques and they won't carry the 7/8" bows because they never get requests for them.

| I guess is a matter of personal preferences... I like my Luna in either size... I don't think 7/8 look excesively big thou... I just love any size of bows! I have not used on her a double looped 7/8 bow... I don't make them... but she is perfect with the single loop one and the double looped 5/8. for me the 3/8 are best for pig tails... good luck!!! every yorkie is adorable in a bow, big or small!!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Thanks for all the great replies. This is all still new to me, and my eye is still training for what I like and don't like. I use to not like bows on boys, I thought they looked too prima donna, now I love them. Joey's in the 5 pound range, but his topknot is still sparse, so I think the 5/8 might look better. Lacy looks great in both sizes, and that pink dress and bow are the cutest thing ever!! Little Haruka can wear anything and look great! She's got such an attitude!
