| My new puppy stinks! Tucker smells! No matter how many baths he gets he smells and his hair feels rough and stiff. Maybe I'm not getting all the shampoo out of his hair? I've smelled his ears and his breath and it's not coming from them. He was checked at the vet and given a clean bill of health 2 days ago. What could be the problem? It kind of smells like dried spit if that makes any sense. Not a poopy smell, or bad breath smell, just a very strong stale type smell. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. He still smells today and he had a bath last night! |

| Could it be his face? Are his eyes running?

| Riley smelled funny for about the first month I had him. I'm not sure if it was a puppy thing or what, but I got a really good oatmeal shampoo and it went away. |

| Hm.. Do you blow dry him after a bath and make sure he's completely dry? If not, some dogs get that 'wet dog' oder after a bath.. also make sure you completely rinse the shampoo out, that may be the problem too. But I'm no expert, so hopefully someone can clear this up for you.

| What shampoo are you using? I didn't like the way the first one I bought smelled after so I switched. And I would agree with the others, make sure you're washing it completely out of his hair. There is also a conditioner I bought that I put on them after a bath and it smells so good...like a coconut smell. You may also want to post something in the Groomer's section....someone should be able to offer good advice(other than what was already given). Good Luck!

| Vellus.com has some good shampoo and conditioners and maintenance sprays. My yogi smells like that and i discovered its from the hair on his face because when he drinks all his hair gets soaked and it dries with a funny smell. |

| My new puppy stinks Tricksie will have a dog odor if she goes outside, but after coming in the smell goes away. Yes, I would post something in grooming.

| The only dog I've ever seen like that was one with a cottony coat it was weird...Stiff and as it got longer it matted awful... But I think it may be his diet... Some of these breeders feed crap... just enough to get by.. Get him on good food and spritz him with something that smells good.. Use a conditioner like the one Pet silk has they also have a nice spritz to make him smell nice.. Good luck dear.. Gosh... hard to love a puppy if it stink.... I love puppy smell they are so soft and cuddly... Gosh, you'd think after all these yrs of raising puppy's I'd get over that.... |

| Well I just got finished giving Tucker and Lexie a good combing. I was able to get his coat a little softer and less stiff. I think he does have a cottony coat because it looks nothing like Lexie's! Her's is soft and shiny and his feels stiff and is very matte. I cleaned his eyes and he didn't have much eye goop. We bathe them both with oatmeal shampoo from Target, but Lexie doesn't smell. That's the weird thing, they both eat the same food, drink the same water, get bathed the same, and still Lexie smells like a normal puppy and Tucker smells like he rolled around in his own urine. Well the only thing I guess it could be is I didn't blow dry him the last time I bathed him, I just let him dry in my lap wrapped in a towel. I guess that could be it. I hope it goes away! |

| Could it be that the hair around his privates is getting wet from urine and then drying before you notice? I know that Bear when I first got him had this problem and his hair was always stiff around his center. I finally clipped the hair in the area and it has made a big difference.

| I have 1 with a cotton coat and her hair felt like that when I first got her, after a couple weeks it felt a lot softer. I don't know if it was getting her on a better food or treating her coat differently but something worked. I was using a spray on conditioner following her bath with oatmeal shampoo and creme rinse. Now I'm using only mink sheen and her hair is still soft. Granted she would still mat really easy if I didn't brush her daily but it is so much better now.

| I like to use Royal Treat Pet Spa products. My Hairy Winston has a cottony coat and doesn't seem to always smell very fresh! (kind of corn chippy smell) So I saw these new products and they have the shampoo and in between bath spray! I found it on HSN.com! My favorite is the lavendar scent, and the banana. He always comes out smelling like fresh baked banana bread instead of corn chips! LOL! Hope it helps |
