| My sick yorkie Hello, I have posted on here before and someone asked that i post pictures of the hair loss, distended abdomen and skin discoloration. I am in the process of trying to get to the bottom of what my poor baby has. I live in a rural town, and the vets here dont know much about cushings and thyroid disorders. I am grasping for anyone that might know what could be wrong with this 8 year old yorkie. His sympotms are this: hair loss, except for the head and feet, and a tight distended abdomen, and a discoloration to his skin. He had a T4 test in June of 07 and is showed normal, which made us assume that a thyroid disorder was ruled out. Just curious to see what everone elses coments are. My vets here say that hair loss is normal for an old dog. I dont consider 8 to be old, and why would it be so sporadic? Any thoughts are appreciated. I have tried to post the pictures on here, but the website said they are too large. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pom has Cushings and was first diagnosed with Thyroid disease, we treated that for 6 months and no change in her symptoms so she went to a specialist who diagnosed Cushing's. Maya's symptoms were eating like she had never seen food, massive hair loss especially in the hind quarters, drinking a little more, skin sores and discoloration of skin in the areas of the most hair loss. The discoloration is a bluish black look to the skin. SHe was treated for that but developed liver disease so we had to discontinue treatment and treat the liver disease. You really need a specialist to diagnose and treat Cushing's as the meds are pretty toxic. I hope you can find out what it is.

| My toy poodle finally lost his battle with cushings and other complications last year; he was 12 years old. He was diagnosed with Cushings approximately 2 years before we lost him. During those 2 years he was treated with medications and led a pretty normal life until the very end when he got very bad very quickly. According to our vet the younger they are and the earlier it is diagnosed as cushings the better because there are good medications out there now to treat them. Our Rocky did not have any hair loss, skin discoloration or a distended abdomen, but had the test that showed it was definitely Cushings so there must be a number of different symptoms. I'm so sorry your baby is not well and hope you are able to find the problem and have it treated. As I said, my baby was able to live 2 very good years after his initial diagnosis. |

There is a ton of information here about Cushings, how to test for it and how to treat it. http://www.petdiabetes.org/cushings.htm | |
