| potty training..TOO COLD?? okay so snickers has been going on the pee pee pads for about 6 months now, and the reason i've been doing this was because he didnt have all his shots yet, and i wanted to be safe and wait until he got all his shots in order to start training him to go outside..so today i tried to take him outside to go and do his business..i said "go potty" SEVERAL TIMES!! but i think it was WAYYYY TOOOO COLD OUTSIDE! he was shaking and kept on sitting down next to me, and wouldnt go pee!! what should i do??? is it too cold outside or something??? |

| Honey, I know what you mean. I tried taking my Cali out on Sunday here in Atlanta (and it was cold, but not FREEZING like some mornings can be) and peeing was absolutely the last thing on her mind. She shook like a leaf. I think I said "go potty" about twelve hundred times. Nothing. So today I went and found a sweater for her. We are going to get this potty thing down come hell or highwater!

| This is what happend to me too!!! When I got Bailey shortly after some days it was a little cold and the ground would be wet and when I would take Bailey back inside he would literally be shaking and I was like oh my goodness this is torture but in Louisiana of course the cold days don't last that long but I would get so mad because it would mess up me trying to potty train Bailey so now I'm just trying to potty train inside even though it been got warm I'm just going to try and see, so far I think POTTY TRAINING is the last thing on Bailey's mind right now

| I just saw a video of a lady taking her dogs out in some snow! I'd just get that baby a sweater! Mine do come in a lot faster when its cold. But I'm in south Alabama, so it doesn't get too cold often. |

| You never know how they will be with the cold weather. My Jewels is almost 2 years old and she is outside trained and went out in the cold last year. This year she has decided she wont go out in the cold and our weather has been much warmer than last year. So we are now pee pad training her

| My sweet Molly was just about trained so that she could go outside without me and do her thing, when it got cold here in Minnesota. But it'll be cold a long time here and other small dogs do it so - we started over. I let her out - said 'go potty" and left her out for a minute or so. She just sat outside the door shivering and looking pathetic, of course. So I let her in and she had to go into her kennel. A little while later we tried it again. We did that over and over until she finally went. THEN, and only then, she had the run of the house. (Then, we did the same all over again in the afternoon!) It only took a few days and now she goes right away - if she has to. In the morning when I get up she goes from my bed right into her kennel until she's ready to go out, then she'll let me know. Hope this helps. Kathy |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | morgan has been trained to go outside. however for the past couple weeks since its been getting colder she's been having accidents in the house. when i take her outside she runs around, does her business, and then runs back to the door to be let in. however she figured out that if she just runs around pees for 2 seconds and then runs back to me i'd let her inside and then she could finish somewhere warmer where her footies wouldn't get wet and cold. Shorly after i figured out this was what she was doing. so now i make her stand out there and 'go potty' until she actually does both. if i put a jacket on her she'll run around a little longer before she goes potty but the past couple days she's been doing all her business outside and hasn't had anymore inside accidents. so no matter how cold it is outside, as long as your baby has a sweater on, stay out there until they go. don't give up. soon they will realize that if they hurry up and 'go potty' they won't have to stay outside any longer then necessary and then they get to go inside wear its warm and get a cookie the most important this to remember is not to give in. I got morgan in july and it rained alot. i was dead set on potty training her outside so we stood out there for 30 minutes one time in the pouring rain until she peed. after that she peed and pooped alot faster. LOL

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Yep...just put on a sweater and be firm. They learn to go faster. Funny but you would think that when it rained it would hustle them. But Lex used to love to stand outside and let the rain hit him...guess that is why he seemed to like baths...lol. Good luck. Just be consistent and it will happen.

| What I did was I put Coco in her crate and as soon as she really really had to go (she makes noises), I would carry her to go outside. By this time she didn't even care because she really had to go and just squated down as soon as I put her outside. She peed and pooped When this happened, she knew it was ok to pee and poop outside. She is both trained inside and out though. When it rains or when I'm not home, she goes on her wee wee pad. When I am home, she'll stare at me to get my attention and run towards the door. But she does still has accidents, she'll pee by the door when I'm home and busy. Just wait until they really really had to pee. I guess it's kinda hard for everyone, but give it a try. Go for a drive or something. My dog usually does not pee when we go for a drive. She holds it. And as soon as we arrive, she goes straight to the garden. |

| same thing here in california, is soo cold the pavement is sooo cold in the morning i now because i went out without socks and shoes and i was freezing i said i cant take her out like this, so i really dont get her out like at 7am when she wakes up, and specially since shes just 3 months, and so i just wait till it heats up, for the meantime between times she uses her wee-wee pad inside her crate |
