| First time puppy owner Hello Everyone!! My husband and I are first time puppy owners. We got Harley on Sunday 12/10/2006, he is 10 weeks old. We have been keeping him in his crate at night and during the day while we are at work. I want to know how long a puppy should stay in his crate. The vet said he will be ok at night to be in his crate. He has been really good about it too. He has had no accidents in the crate. I feel bad because I leave the little guy in there from 8:30-5:30 during the day. My mom is going to my house today to let him out around 1 to go potty and get some water. Am I keeping him in his crate to long? All opinions are welcome!!!

| It is probably a little long to leave him in there without a break during the day! Is there any way you could go home during lunch or even take him and his crate with you to work? COngrats on your little man!

| Welcome to YT . I think at least for a little while you should let him out to potty and get food/drink. at least 1-2 times during the day. And make sure to spend lots of one on one time when you do get home. he needs lots of loven. |

| I wouldnt leave him in a crate that long. I would either get an xpen to keep him in or gate off an area that he can stay

| That's a long time to leave him in there. At night we put Ferdinand in his crate, but during the day we put a baby-gate at the entrance of the laundry room with some puppy pee pads so that he can play, eat, drink, and go potty on the pads if he needs to. You can get a baby-gate at Target for like $15. Welcome to YT and congrats on your new furbaby!

| Thank you for the advice! I told my husband I should probably put him in the bathroom during the day. I just don't want him to get confused with the pee pee pad!

| I'm not sure what a xpen is. I thought about leaving him in our bathroom with water and a bowl of food and a pee pee pad. I just didn't want him to get confused with a pee pee pad. I want him to go outside and not in the house.
