| Yes, check with vet, but I know they often rec. benedryl to calm them down for plane trips...and many are on it here for allergies...I don't know, maybe if only for the short term, definitely not as a solution.

| The benedryl will wear off. I would only use it for allergies, or if necessary.

| Get up about 1 1/2 to 2 hours earlier and spend the time with him before you go to work. Before you leave he will be tired and only too glad to see you leave. It's part of the responsibility of dog ownership if you want a dog when you work full time. Right after work you don't get to go anywhere but come straight home and you are his for the rest of the time until you go to bed. I don't agree with drugging a dog in this type of situation. Are you crating him? I prefer leaving a puppy in a safe room such as a kitchen with a baby gate or large xpen so he has some room. You can also get a dog walker to come in mid day and take him out. |

| My vet recommended I stay with Lyric the first time I gave him Benodryl for his allergies. To make sure he didn't have a bad reaction to it. Plus you don't want to get him hooked on the stuff. Especially if it is not needed. Why fill his little body with unessesary meds? JMO.

This may sound crazy and may not be do-able, but do you think if you got him a playmate that he would still cry all day? Chloe cries for me but only when she is alone, like when I take her on errands or over to people's houses. The minute I am out of sight she gets anzy and cries for me. But at my house she could care less if I am gone becuase she has 2 other dogs to play with and entertain her.

| Sorry but all I could think when reading your post was about the people who give there HUMAN children this so they don't have to be bothered and can make their own lives easier. I think if you need to resort to this... you need to find the dog a new home

| How old is your baby and how long have you had him? He might just still be adjusting to the crate and his new surroundings. Have your tried taking him for a walk first thing in the morning and playing with him before you go to work? It might help. |

| The person who started this thread made a thread previously about her baby crying all day and her apt people have threatened to kick her out. Her baby does not stay in a crate...it pretty much has free run of the house if I remember correctly. She leaves lots of toys out, worn tshirts, food, water, tv on, everything. She has also said previously that there is no possible way that she can get her little furbaby a playmate. I think she was just wondering if she could give it Benadryl just this ONE day because she has already hired a trainer to come and help her with the situation. |
