| New Trainer comes today! I'm so excited, I've got a trainer coming to my house today for a one-on-one with Harley and I. I'm going to start classes, but I figured I needed to get some background information first. Any tips on how to get the most out of the two hours with her today? I'm thinking first I'm going to let he see how I handle Harley and then ask what I'm doing wrong. That and Harley is for some reason petrified of his harness, so I definitely want to work on that.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I envy you! All I can suggest is that you listen to every word. And don't be afraid to ask questions. I have an idea the training will be more about managing YOUR behavior to get the desired response out of your baby. I've been telling people that T already knows exactly how to be a dog - I'm the one that needs to be trained. Looking forward to hearing all about it later! |

I work with an in home trainer and basically I discussed what bad behaviors my dog had and she taught me techniques to correct those. ie biting, jumping on furniture and people, how to wait at the door once it's open, how to correct barking/whining. She also set up a potty training schedule which includes the times to feed, times to provide water, what time to take puppy out. And then she demonstrates the different commands that she will teach me over the course of the training program. I, in turn, received logs from her and I have to record the date, time spent doing obedience training (sit, come, stay, down, leash training etc) and also a log for pottying, what time the pup peed/poop and where it occurred. It's really about the trainer teaching you, based on the issues you want to resolve. She comes weekly and I tell her what's working and what's not and she revamps the lessons, schedules accordingly. Hope that helps. | |

| Yeah I'm super excited. I'm a horse trainer. so I know a lot about animal psychology I'm excited to learn how to apply that to Harley. I agree it'll be me that gets all the training. I have a doubt that we'll do much actual training with Harley, it'll all be inadvertent training for him... at least for today.

| It went awesome I learned a lot about Harley. He's soooo smart. We did all kinds of stuff and talked about sooo many things. She told me I have a really talented and smart dog. It made me feel good, I also realized there are a lot of things I'm doing right already. So we have lots of homework. Overall a good point to my day
