Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I have no advise but do say GO FOR IT ! Way back when I got mine - years ago I never realized how important it was for them to be around other dogs frequently - It was just my husband and I at the time and they were pretty much totally spoiled and it sure shows even more now that they're so much older...not their fault - All mine ! But they're just way way too attached to me and can be a bit intimidated by other people/dogs even though I went to lots of meetups back before I had to start working all the time..... good luck - you're on the right path - just remember - vaccinations are important so you want to make sure your puppy is covered before being around lots of other dogs |

| That is my biggest concern, the vaccinations. He has had a couple, one being yesterday and I got great advice that I need to wait two weeks for them to be effective. He is just a bit of a bossy britches and I think it will do him great good to be with numerous other dogs. I do have a 5 lb pom that he plays great with. I don't want to miss that "window" so to speak. Thanks so much for the reply! |

| Once they have had all of their shots, take them to puppy classes, take them to friends who have dogs, etc. just expose them to other dogs. As puppies they should just be naturaally curious fand curious. if they are shy and fearful, then they were not socialized by the breeder. Then you need to take it a lot slower. |

Puppies get antibodies from their mother when they nurse which can actually block the earlier vaccines. He'll be about 18 weeks before he can be fully immunized. In one study of a cross section of different puppies the age at which they were able to respond to a vaccine and develop protection covered a wide period of time. At six weeks of age, 25% of the puppies could be immunized. At 9 weeks of age, 40% of the puppies were able to respond to the vaccine. The number increased to 60% by 16 weeks, and by 18 weeks of age, 95% of the puppies could be immunized. Parvovirus: Serious Diarrhea in Puppies & Dogs For now, playing with your other dog is great. If you have friends whose dogs are fully vaccinated and the right size, you could have a little play date. You can take him out safely in a little bag and have neighbors or friends feed him a little treat to get him used to strange people. This also helps him get used to strange noises. | |

Socialization is SO important at an early age. I was lucky in the fact that my dad had 2 dogs (that were fully vetted) and my mother, at the time, also had a dog so he got to socialize with them alot. I got him in the winter so for the first 2 months we couldn't really go many places anyways. We first went to the dog park when he was almost 6 months old, simply because of weather.

| We are going to visit family this weekend for the holiday so he will get to meet a couple more. My mother has a pap and my sis-in-law has a young mini doxy. AND more importantly he will be meeting a bunch of children! (mine are adults) I have tons of nieces and nephews that will be there to play with him. Yesterday when I ran in petsmart I asked every child I passed if they would mind petting my puppy lol. Of course all were compliant : ) Thanks everyone! |
