| ARG Layla HATES walking She is driving me nuts- What dog DOESN"T like to walk? I ask her- layla do you want to go for a walk- she gets all excited- we get out there to go and she digs her feet into the ground. So i pick her up we walk for a bit- i put her back down and i'm practically dragging her. At some point on our walk she WILL walk but only because she thinks we are almost home- she almost RUNS back home- honestly? is she a dog? I think i need to send her to Mike in Alaska and let Eddie, Jack and Rusty show her how it is done. Is Layla the only weird dog? |

| I think she may be the only one LOL Mitzy loves to walk. She pulls so hard on her harness. Its so funny to watch her dig her little feet into the ground and hop forward to try and get in front

| Marci that's just too funny! Is she like that when the weather is really warm and nice, or only on cold days? Where's Ceasar when you need him!

| Izze is the same way lol I attribute it to her not having a puppyhood...but I work on it. she is better when walking with my poodles... but I just stop and let her have her moment and then continue walking. I don't pick her up, because that is what she wants.

| Mine don't always like to walk....and honestly, I know this sounds dumb, but it depends on if they're dressed or not. If I dress Milli in a coat, she won't walk...I don't nkow if it's not comfortable, or if she's embarassed! When I put her in a hoody, she does fine. What is she wearing when you walk her?

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I have Sailor who will walk "sometimes' but it has to be perfect conditions - daylight, not too warm or cold and for sure not windy (even the slightest)....she just sits down and refuses. Then I have Magic that will walk forever but if she feels she has not had a long enough walk will plant her feet when you head back to the house.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Ah, dogs. I volunteer at an animal shelter and it is amazing how many dogs stall out. They will either only walk twenty feet at a time, or only walk BACK to the shelter, or, even more fun, refuse to return. Last week, I carried a forty pound dog half a mile back to the shelter. Little stinker. My boy stalls out sometimes, but for me it's helpful because I can tell when he needs to pee. If he holds back at the door, I go back inside. That's only when he's tired though. Normally he loves being out. Cesar actually did do a show on this. His solution was to drive the dog maybe 1/4 of a mile away, and then when he let her out she couldn't wait to get back to the house. Eventually she learned to walk AWAY from the house, not just towards it. Maybe you could try this for a while? Last edited by QuickSilver; 11-23-2008 at 06:48 PM. Reason: More stuff |

You see- today we went to the park- fun i thought- new smells- squirrels like crazy- nope she just wanted to go back to the car- But if i walk her far enough away she will walk because she wants to go back to the car- for SOME reason this only seems to be a problem when it is the two of us. A month ago we had a behaviourist with us at this park because Layla is very scared of big dogs or dogs with a lot of energy and when she was with us- Lay walked no problem. And sometimes we go further than just around the block- and it seems if you can get her far enough away she will forget about it or just thinks maybe we are eventually on the way home I just feel like she hates it so much and i feel bad but you are right- if we get far enough away she does seem to have a good time! Kinda like me- i never want to go out- but once i'm there i have fun hahah | |
