| Should I Sell Her? Hello! I did already sent in this forum short videos of my female here http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=85851&page=2 asking for your opinions about her topline. Now I would like to add some photos and ask you what do you think should I sell her or I should breed with her???? I know with this topline she is not good for shows but do you think she is good for breeding??? Here are some photos: |

| A straight topline is a dominant trait. If your gal is showing a bad topline than she is homozygous recessive for that trait. Simply put, unless you find a male that is homozygous dominant for a good topline you have a chance of seeing the lousy topline in half of the pups that your gal throws. It's a tough decision to start over, one I'm dealing with myself to some degree. My advise is if you don't like her topline don't breed it.

She is almost 7 months Yes she is very beautifull, but the problem is her topline. Her back is higher I already bought my first yorkie with roach back 3 years ago and as I don`t have much luck I bought a bad topline yorkie again I kept fist yorkie, becouse I love him so much I could never sell him, but I can`t keep another one with bad topline. I would like to become a breeder and go on dog shows, but with this toplines .... If I keep buying like this I will have a full house of bad topline yorkies | |

| top line The last photo on the right in your first post is the best photo of the problem...she is very down in the shoulders. I would wait 12 full months and if it looks the same I do one of two things, you have to decide your options... This is a structure fault that may not correct..I had a bitch do exactly as yours, but hers correct by 12 months..did not see it in her pups, in fact one was finished and used quite frequently at stud..did not see the problem. You have two choices...spay and place or breed her correctly... I know you are discouraged, but a structure fault is so hard to correct once it is set into the line..coat, color, size can be correctly far more easily... She is lovely otherwise...You could try a superior stud from a line known for excellent structure ..I would never keep a male from her, but you could keep a bitch puppy from her ...(keep the best bitch with good top line of course)... and go back to the superior line for another linebred stud to compliment that puppy bitch...spay the original bitch (one you have now) and place her... Since you will be outcrossing to hopefully get a nice puppy bitch, you will need to linebreed back to the studs line with her puppy bitch also, to set a top line...OF course, this is all my opinion..and others will have theirs..some feel it is not worth trying and if you have lots of other options to get a new potential it may not be..but some can not find any decent breed potentials anywhere, I do not know you area...a lot depends on how much space you have and time to devote to keeping her and her pups to see if the breeding worked.. | males Think about it..how many roosters does a farmer need in the hen house or bulls in the pasture? Dogs are no different..breeders just do not need as many as females. |
