| Aca Registered Yoda is AKC but I saw an ad for a beautiful 4 month old female but she is ACA registered. Can she be AKC registered as well? If I do buy a female, chances are we will breed at some point down the road. I didn't read positive things about ACA on the web. Thank you for your input.

| she cannot be akc reg. akc will only reg if both parents are akc reg. no exceptions. aca is usally comes from someone who sells many pets or different breeds or they were sold to them on a pet only ..limited reg and they bred them anyway and this is the only way to reg them....or their could have been a mix. sorry to have to tell you this. i usually stay away from people who sell on aca reg. but you have your wonderful little girl....so spoil her rotton.

| It's true you can not register an ACA dog through AKC. BUT, You can duel register your AKC dog through ACA. The litter would be ACA registered. You will need AKC if you plan to Show your dogs in an AKC Dog Show. I breed both ACA and AKC. My ACA Dogs are NOT mixed, I don't breed different breeds, and I do have permission to bred them from the breeder. I can guarantee My ACA dogs are just as Nice as my AKC dogs and have Ch. Bloodlines. There are good and bad in Both Registries. |

| If you are uncomfortable with the registry, then I would not buy her. And no, you cannot have her registed with AKC. |

| Stay with AKC. Some time back I puchased a working dog, AKC registered. I purchased her as a pet, and protector only, no intentions on breeding her. Several months later I received a letter from AKC that there was a DNA problem. I contacted the breeder I purchased her from, as he also received a letter. He contacted me a couple of days later to let me know it was nothing he done wrong. It was the breeder he purchased his male from. That person let the female stay out in the fields with the male protecting the live stock and did not put her up when she came into season like he should have. Well I don't need to tell the rest of that story. This affected a lot of dogs. I wonder if any people went on to register with another registry so they could raise puppies? AKC works hard to make sure people are getting a full blooded dog. Check out their website. |

| I have an APR puppymill Yorkie. From what I have now read up on all those other registeries, you could register a Hermit Crab mix if you wanted. LOL. I did get a really good story from the puppymiller though. That AKC had become to expensive and to hard to work with. Thus, many breeders are going to other registeries. Yeah right. My next baby will be AKC as they seem the most reputable and strict, which is what I like to hear. Expensive? Well, maybe. But so was my puppymill baby to the tune of $1,500. YIKES

| Yes.. and when I first started out I bought a male from an AKC breeder ( who I thought was a good breeder) a little stud dog. Bought him at 5 months and at 7 months he started having severe seizures..the breeder would not stand behind the dog. And she continued to breed the same dogs. She didn't even care enough to inquire about the dog to see how he was. Cost me price of the dog plus Vet bills to get him lined out for a total of about 1500.00. I could not and would not breed him ...the dog was neutered . and giving free to a Dr. and his wife who was a Nurse. I know AKC is an older registery ..But I'm still not real happy with them since they were in Goodwin Mo. and patting the Hunte's corp ( AKA the biggest puppymill and broker around) on the back for a good job they are doing. IMO.. there are good and bad in all registeries. |

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | A late addition Just FYI (though this is a really late addition to this thread) - You can possibly register an ACA dog with the AKC. When I started working with my dad, all of our dogs were ACA registered and only 4 were dual registered with the AKC. I contacted the AKC (you can email altreg@akc.org), and they did research on all of our dogs' pedigrees, and all but one of our dogs were able to be registered with the AKC. So, check it out first. : ) Far enough back in every dog, if they are pure bred, they are AKC registerable - EVERYTHING used to be AKC only. The only reason one of our males wasn't able to be registered is because the breeder we got him from messed up paperwork or something and a DNA test proved the litter application was wrong or something, so his registration was cancelled before we even had a chance to register him. PM me if you need more info or the phone number of my lady at the AKC (she is AWESOME by the way).

This is true (what the breeder told you). Many people are leaving the AKC because the other registries are cheaper. That's why the AKC is now offering incentives to get breeders back. FYI, I put a thread in the Breeder section about AKC registration, and most puppy owners don't seem to care anyway, so a lot of breeders are ceasing to care too much, as long as their dogs are pure, who cares what the papers are.

| I know this is an old thread, but....Have you registered a litter with akc? because i dont think they are expensive. It only cost me 23.00 to register my litter. so as far as im concerned if they are saying it is too expensive then they are full of it! I dont have a preference either way as to what everyone breeds, so not bashing anyone who registers other than akc. but that should not be an excuse to switch a akc dog to another registry, there are other reasons. I only do akc, but that is my preference. As always JMO. renae

I think people are saying they are leaving because the other registries are cheaper, but in truth, the AKC has suspended many of them, or they don't want to live up to the AKC tougher requirements and DNA testing. Lots of people don't understand the difference between the AKC and other registries, but people are educating themselves more before buying a pet. So many people are told by the breeders themselves, that the pets are eligible to be registered by the AKC, but don't bother registering, if you aren't planning to breed or show. This seems to be common statement amoung pet buyers, and they don't understand why registration is important. The pet they have been sold as AKC may not even be eligible, and unless they actually try to register they will never know. AKC is the only registry that does routine unannounced kennel inspections, and while not perfect, they are heads above all other registries. I read your other post where you encouraged buyers to register, and I think this is great.
