Help!! My 11 month old is pregnant!!! Ok, I am sure that I am going to receive lots of negative comments but I'm ok with that.. I need some help big time!! I have 2 akc registered Yorkies that I planned to breed in a year or so.. I was planning on learning everything beforehand and talking to my vet first..Well I came back from Florida on Feb 15th. While I was gone, my father watched Kallie and Stewie..About Feb 20th or so I noticed Kallie having dishcarge and I assumed she was either in heat or going soon so I immediately put her underwear on.. I kept her and Stewie seperated at all times. They did not go outside together and they rotated turns in theiir crates. I kept kallies underwear on her for 35 days exactly and kept them seperated since I wasn't sure of when she came into heat.About a week after I put the underwear on her, I noticed blood in them so I knew I was doing the right thing by keeping them seperated. I listened to Stewie howl and cry for 35 days until they were reunited.. I thought heat was 21 days so I was safe after 35. Well last Thursday, I cut Kallies long hair off and noticed her belly and nipples. I weighed her and she has gained 2 lbs. I called the vet and took her on Friday for an ultrasound...He said yep, there are 2 or more puppies in their... He told me to try and think about when she would have conceived?????? I have no clue.. What did I do wrong???? I am so afraid that something is going to happen to her.. The vet told me that she would be fine. That 1 out of 5 Yorkies has to have a csection and that there was no way to tell until labor starts. He said that it being her first heat was no big deal... Is this true?? What could happen to her?? He said that how she does will depend on her genetics not her age.... He said that we are looking at delivery in the next week or two and that if she starts panting them she is getting ready... That is it..... That is all the info that I got from him and now I am carrying her around and watching her like a hawk but I have no idea what I am looking for... Someone please tell me where to start.. I am not prepared for this and I do not want anything to happen to my baby...Is there any way to tell how far she is????

The vet should have been able to give you a ball park idea at least? If he did an ultrasound he should have been able to guestimate how developed the puppies looked. He probably could get you within 2 or so weeks at the very least. Really the only other signs is you can usually feel movement about 7-12 days before birth (depends on size of puppies). As far as labor goes... watch her for to stop eating, digging a lot. You need to go buy a digital thermometer so that you can start monitoring her temp. She should be about 100-101 and usually their temp drops below 99 right before labor (can be 12-24 hours). If she has already gained two pounds and the vet sees 2 or so puppies my guess is that she is close. Good luck.... I would read through the april puppies thread... there is a ton of advice... plus you can read about others experiences. Might give you some quick experience!

Those are some good links posted. You might also ask your Vet if there are some yorkie breeders in your area that might be able to help you and be on hand when the time comes. READ everything you can...good luck to you.

| Wow, that would be a shock. It is my understanding that the reason to wait for the second heat before breeding is to make sure that your female is completely developed herself before having to grow her babies. What is done is done. Let it go and get yourself ready as best you can. A local breeder to help is a great idea. Read the articles suggested and then come back here and ask questions. If you are lucky it will be a day whelp and you can always go to your vet. After hours is a little harder, make sure you know where your vet says you should go after hours. My first whelp was at the vet's office. I was too scared and took her there the minute I knew she was in labor. They just put me in a room and left us, and then checked back in. I knew help was just a few steps away. Put her on puppy food now and some type of calcium. I use Pet-Cal, get it from the vet, or some people supplement the diet with cottage cheese or yogurt and Tums. You want to make sure the puppies don't deplete her own body calcium. good luck. There are lots of us here that have done this before, so stay in touch.

Thanks everyone for the helpful info.. I have been reading it and I went and got her welping area ready.. My neighbor thinks that she is going to go any day now. Her belly has gotten alot bigger in just a week. I put tons of blankets in her xpen and made it a little smaller for her and took Stewie away from her. He wants to play alot and I don't want any of the puppies to die. I am absolutely terrified that I am going to do something wrong and cause harm to her or her babies.. I just took her temp and it was 100.5 so I don't think she is going to be ready today.. I made her a seperate welping box to put beside my bed in case she started in the middle of the night. Poor Stewie wants in there so bad with her but someone told be he would eat the puppies so I am not taking any chances.. I just prey that everything goes well.. My husband is going to bring me a stethascope home and we have the heating pad ready.. She wants to be right beside me at all times. She will not go anywhere without me which is not like her.. She is my independant one that needs noone to help her.. Could this mean that she is close or just scared? I feel so horrible that this has happened to her.. I'm such a horrible mom....If something happens to her, I will never forgive myself...

I do not recommend calcium before whelping (not in significant amounts). They need to be good at supplying it themselves during whelping. That is when they'll need it. I do suggest it during whelphing, and nursing. You can search for eclampsia on YT and google for more information.

Ok so I have been checking her temp every hour and we have gone from 100.5 to 100.2 to now 99.7. Does this mean she is close? She wants to be in my lap....
