Crying Baby My female had pups three weeks ago tomorrow. Two girls and one boy. The girls are doing fine. This morning their weights were 9 & 10 oz. The little boy I'm concerned about. His weight is 5 3/4 oz. as of this morning. The vet said their was no need to supplement him, just make sure he had one on one with the Mama. That is what I have been doing. Last night I was up most of the night because he was crying. I checked him over to see if I could see if he was hurt. I found nothing. I tried to get him to nurse, but he wasn't interested. My question is could he have gas, or an upset stomach? If he continues to cry and doesn't nurse I will take him to my vet but I see nothing visibly wrong with him. Thank You!

How is the puppy's coloring? Is he warm to the touch? How does his belly feel? Try to watch closely today and see if he's actually not nursing at all or if you're just catching him when he's already done it. If the simethicone drops don't work you'll definitely want to take him to the vet.

He seem's to be okay, except for the crying. His little belly is full. His coloring looks okay. I will try your suggestions. Thank You!

he is not gaining and is crying for a reason. Have you checked for cleft palate? i would feel better if you take him to the vet. His weight should be right up there with the rest of them or at least close to it.

BANNED! | I tend to agree with you on this Dee. I would also consider he might need to poop so take a warm wet cloth and wipe his bottom to see if hes just abit constipated. If he still isnt interested in eating I'd surely take him to visit the vet right away. |

I would probably take him in for a visit also if nothing else at least touch base with your vet about your concern. I had a little one with this last litter who cried one night also,I was up all night rubbing her tummy and burping the little one for I had no drops to give her (shame on me thought I had a full bottle and it was all gone) A good reason to always recheck all your medical supplies and make sure all is full and up to date.

He was the "runt" and his weight gain has been slower than the girls. Is that normal? Up until last night he has been feeding fine. I'm going to try the Mylacon and if he's not better soon, to the vet we go. Thank You!

Thanks to all the wonderful suggestions I received my little guy is doing better. I gave my baby a few drops of Mylacon, used a warm cotton ball on his bottom, rubbed his little tummy for a while and put him up to Mom to nurse. This morning his weight was up to 6 ozs. He is more vocal than the girls and I'm guessing that is just his nature. Thank You!

He could also be getting a little chilled. Sometimes what feels warm to us is a little chilly to them if there is any breeze at all especially since he does not have any body fat to warm him. Do you have them on a heating pad? Try wrapping him in a wash cloth and snuggling him when he is crying and see if that helps or snuggle him in your shirt on your chest. He may just be alittle chilled also! Best of luck with them.

The heating pad covers half the whelping box area and is covered by bedding (one piece of sheepskin like material). I have wondered if it was warm enough. Most of the time the heating pad is on low. Sometimes I will turn it up to medium for a little while and keep feeling to make sure it's not getting too warm. They sleep piled on one another so I think that helps keep them warm. I also have a blanket that partially covers the whelping area to knock off any drafts. They are in our bedroom in the whelping area which is inside an X-pen so I'm able to hear them. How long should they use a heating pad? His weight this morning is 6 1/4 oz. Thanks for all your suggestions.
