The heating pad covers half the whelping box area and is covered by bedding (one piece of sheepskin like material). I have wondered if it was warm enough. Most of the time the heating pad is on low. Sometimes I will turn it up to medium for a little while and keep feeling to make sure it's not getting too warm. They sleep piled on one another so I think that helps keep them warm. I also have a blanket that partially covers the whelping area to knock off any drafts. They are in our bedroom in the whelping area which is inside an X-pen so I'm able to hear them. How long should they use a heating pad? His weight this morning is 6 1/4 oz.
Thanks for all your suggestions. |
