2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | This was my first experience working with knits. Not a good one might I add and will probable be my last unless I can master it using the tips and advise that everyone has given me.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | I've seen videos on YouTube that show to put stabilizer or even a sheet of copy paper underneath. Also, I used to despise any kind of knit or slick material and then I discovered the even feed foot for my machine. I love that thing and am no longer quite so hesitant to work with those types of fabrics.

| Don't stretch it? You are supposed to lightly stretch knits as you sew. Otherwise if you don't, you lose the stretch at the seam, which you already do a bit at a seam, but if you don't it's even worse, and the threads will pop if you do try to stretch it after it's done. Always use a ball point needle, and the zig zag stitch is the easiest one to start with.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I absolutely second the use of either a tear away stabilizer in between the feed dogs and the knit. Stretch the knit, not the regular fabric so that it will have "give" when the pieces are together. Don't give up. Look in the remnant bin at your fabric store for some inexpensive pieces of knit to practice on and you will get the hang of it in no time. Knits really aren't scary r hard to work with. It's just a small learning curve.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I picked up my ball point needles today will try another go at it next week. Meanwhile my mother has me trying to sew 12+ large patches on this HUGE 5X jean vest for a friend. What a chore ...and that too has not gone well at all. My little Kenmore machine just is not built to handle that kind of bulk. I have the right needle, and tension (I think) but within a 10" section my thread broke 5 times. Ugh , so that little project may need to be done by a professional.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I sort of figured that but without scrap material to test on I'm at a loss as to what the correct tension would be. The jean vest alone was $80 and who knows what the 12 patches cost. I could do it by hand but I am pretty sure he prefers it be done on a machine. I really don't want to mess it up I told her he may just have to use the liquid stitch stuff.
