| Hello again I had a couple of people ask how old the new addition to our family will be when she comes home, she will be 8wks. The picture was taken of her at 4wks and a few days. That was from the first time we went to visit. (I will include some more pictures of her/mom/litter) As September 22nd approaches, I'm becoming more "nervous". I feel like I did as got closer to my due date with my 2 children! I am afraid she'll be a CONSTANT barker.. that she won't adjust to our family.. that she won't be happy.. and I'm afraid of training difficulties. I had read somewhere (I can't seem to remember where, and I'm sorry) that with her being on the smaller side her eating baby food (Meats/Veggies) would be "Ok" for a little while. Or even mixing some of the baby food in with her food to make it softer. Again, it's much harder to "figure things out" because I've always had labs and their diet consisted of Hamburger and/or Turkey, Rice, 1/4c. Innova, Carrots and sometimes Potato's. Can this be done for such a small dog? I'd also appreciate advice on Paper Training. I went to Petco to look at Pads. They've got a plastic mat that the pads "anchor" to so that she can't destroy the pad's. Which brands have people found work the best? Any suggestions to cure the "New Mom" worries??? http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb133/monique0307/Bella/Yorkies001.jpg http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/b...Yorkies002.jpg http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb133/monique0307/Bella/Yorkies003.jpg http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/b...Yorkies004.jpg http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/b...Yorkies007.jpg |

| Welcome! She sure is a cutie! I give my baby (well, he is a year now) carrots, doggy begals, I am in the process of switching him over to Royal Canin for Yorkies (he has been on Eukanuba <small breed puppy and small breed adult> for a while and I am not too happy with it). Don't worry about the things the "might be". Just worry about making sure you have all the stuff you need (pee pads, crate, soft fluffy bedding, toys, food, dishes, nutrical, ect.). As far as the plastic to hold down the pee pad, I had one for my baby (they are a big seller out here in Japan for some reason) and he just pee'd on the side of it, or missed it all together. He does shred his pads when he is playing in his area, normally when he is really teaching that toy a lesson but for the most part he seems to like not having that plastic thing in his way. Maybe try to get the breeder to keep her until she is 12 weeks, it is better for her and sounds like you could use the extra time. Oh, and take a blanket or a toy that her mom can play with, and get her scent on. It may help comfort her at night when she is trying to sleep on her own and misses mommy and siblings. Hope that helps you out some. Wishing you luck! Lisa & Turbo

| Hi and welcome to YT. Your little girl sure is a sweetheart for sure. I would like to suggest also leaving her with her mama and siblings till at the minimum 10 weeks, better at 12 weeks. All the things you're worried about might not happen if you brought her home a little older. Just a thought.

| That was a great point. The older they are when they leave the less you have to worry about.

| I would love for her to stay longer, infact another litter we went to look at the lady was sending them to their new homes at 6wks and I WAS NOT comfortable with that at all. I asked her if she'd keep him until he was 10-12wks and she said "I don't really see what the point would be in keeping him for any longer.. he needs to be socialized". That to me was a "turn off". The lady we are getting "Bella" (Not sure if that's what we will name her, my fiance wants to name her Turbo/Hemi/Disel) from has alot going on right now, I was going to ask about leaving her with Mommy a little longer - but honestly I think she'd be "ok" coming home with us. We're at my Fiance's mothers until we move into our new house and she has a s**t-Zu that will be keeping "Bella" company on the days she's actually left at home for any period of time. The plan is for her to go to work with my fiance as much as possible, until Winter comes. Then she'll probally end up going to work with my fiances mother. His mother works as a "Phone Triage Nurse" at a Doctors office so "Bella" would be able to snuggle with her ALOT and would have ALOT of attention there - very well socialized (No, she wouldn't be around the patients). "Bella" is also 1 of 12 puppies that will be going to their new homes on September 22nd. The breeder had 2 of her females deliver 5days apart.. (Bella is from the older litter). I think as of right now she'll still have 5 or 6 puppies that haven't been placed into new homes. She's an older lady who lost her husband.. I just hate asking to add any more "stressors" to her life. I have thought about asking her, had we gotten a puppy from any other litter - I would have wanted her to stay longer. I call the breeder almost daily to check on her (She lives about 2hrs away from us so I can't go visit all of the time). I'm actually thinking about calling to see if we could go visit today.. I'd love to see how much she has grown! I'm sure she's "HUGE" now. I am honestly quite anxious to take her to the Vet and find out what her weight is. She goes for her 1st shots on the 19th I beleive. Speaking of shots.. are there anyones to NOT get? If she's going to be an indoor dog - does she HAVE to get a rabies? Are there ones that are elective, like with children? I was reading the label for Pro Plan Puppies: Small Breed - any thoughts on that food? I'm thinking we'll end up doing Innove or Eukanuba (sp). Should I look at giving her wet food because of her size - can she "chew" the kibbel well enough without hurting her teeth? I've got NO problem adding water to her kibbel to soften it for her or giving her wet food.. even the kibbel for small breeds looks like it'll be hard to eat! |
