| Normal? A little long but I’m one of those neurotic worry warts so aplologies in advance! We just got our sweet 9 week old baby 4 days ago and here is what has happened since- Day 1- slept most of the day but periods where he was very alert Day 2 - Awake a lot and very playful, ate several times Day 3- Woke up and ate normally, then had a gag/cough/sneeze episode and seemed to cough up water or mucous. Slept more during the day, but still playful and even went to the park and was crying to be put down so he could walk with our other Yorki poo. Ate a lot when we got back, played a little more and went to sleep. Day 4- woke up with the gag/sneeze/cough this morning and has basically been sleeping all day. He wakes up but then goes right back to sleep. I did get him awake at 3 pm and he played very briefly and ate about 1.5 teaspoons and is back to sleep. Does this sound normal or should I try to get him in to the vet today? I’m supposed to take him to the vet in the morning but they weren’t very reassuring when I called. Again- I’m a worry wart so any advice/comments welcome! |

| What did the vet say! Your pup is very young. Hope things are better!

| Congratulations on your new little one! I am sure that the vet will be able to determine what is "normal", but at 9 weeks, he is very young. Each of mine slept a lot when they first came home with us. Not to be critical, but until he has his shots, he should not be out in public where other dogs are present. I must admit that I wanted to socialize one of my boys before I realized the danger in letting him walk on the ground where others had been...I took him to an art fair. We were lucky, and he was fine, but since then my new babies have not been allowed "out in public" until their puppy shot regimes were complete.

| He should still be with his mom until 12 weeks and he might could be a little stressed. Keep watch on his gums and if they are pale it means he is hypoglycemic and needs nutrical or something with sugar in it. If he is throwing up you definitely need to get him to the vet. Do not take him to the park until all of his shots. Even you or your other dog could pick up parvo from the park and give it to the puppy.
