| Ears Taping? I will be getting my little Allie in about 3 weeks and have been reading and trying to find as much info as possible. It seems like the ears sometimes have to be taped so they stand up. On looking at some videos, I have found that people use all sorts of methods from surgical tape to cardboard and tape to tampons to duct tape! What method and materials did you use? Did you have to help the ears stand up or did they stand up on their own? Cant wait for my baby to come home! |

As for taping ears, there are lots of different methods so I will let others that have done it weigh in on that.

| Hi, sounds like you had the same problem as me! How old will she be when you get her? And if her ears are down its perfectly okay! My girl's ears didn't stand up till she was about 4-7 months old, but i still loved her the same! Anyway, why does it matter not all yorkie's ears stand up and it shouldn't matter to you unless you are breeding her. Did you get her as a full puppy. My view is, i don't believe in taping. I find it cruel and tell everyone who buys my puppies to that i do not reccomend taping their ears. I sell the puppies for pets not breeding purposes but thats another story! |

The reason I don't tape young puppies ears is because when the pups are with their litter mates you have to worry about the other pups pulling and biting on the tape. The majority of the time puppies ears will come up on their own but it does not hurt to give them a little help. Most of the time just keeping the hair trimmed and massaging the ears will make them come up.

| My Pippa's ears stand up sometimes (she is 2-1/2 years) and it's adorable. Is it too late to get her ears to stand up all the time? Kali's ears stand up all the time unless she is in trouble. Thanks for any advice! |

| My pup is 4 months old and his ears haven't come up yet. The whole taping process intimidated me, and actually I find his ears adorable. The are mostly up, with just the little tips flopping, so they're super cute. I did try shaving them a few times when he was younger, but it didn't help. Good luck! |

Yorkie Yakker | Why are you worrying? Quote:
I never taped my Yorkie's ears. When I first got her, one stood stick straight in the air, the other flopped like a ragdoll. After a couple months, they worked together as a team.

Also whats the correlation between teething and holding the ears up? My pup is about 19 weeks and seems to be still teething as the mouthing has not stopped yet. When is the teething process done. Thanks! | |

YT 2000 Club Member | I got Maggie when she was around 6 1/2 mos. old. We taped her ears then for three or so days and they stood up and have ever since. She is now 2 yrs old. I prefer the ears standing up because the ears stay dryer this way. Of course, you still must maintain ear care ie; cleaning ear, hair removal.

YT Addict | It can take up to six months. Sometimes when they are teething the ears can droop a bit will normally come back up. Keep the hair on the top third of the ear on each side trimmed short. You can find a video to see how it is done. Use a palm trimmer because it is smaller and easier for tight small areas. The hair can weigh down the ears and cause drooping. I keep my yorkies ears trimmed this way all the time. I also use the trimmer to trim fur underneath paws to keep clean, poop slide and underbelly. |

YT 500 Club Member | I tried tapping but she just took it off. Then I tried it with the cardboard and tape. Her ears would stand fora day and flop down again. I just couldn't keep the tape on for more than a day cus she would pull them off. So about two weeks ago I took her to the groomers and let them trim the ears and in three days they stood on their own and are still standing even after her vaccinations. Hope this helps |
