| YT 1000 Club Member | Yesterday, I had just finished doing some EMails and here on the Site, grabbed some papers and my Coffee, got up, turned, and stepped RIGHT ON Ickey ! ![]() I dropped my Coffee as he yelped, and my adult Dogs came running to help him out. Fortunately, I wasn't wearing shoes, and caught him mid-body. He lay there shaking, and when I picked him up, I felt urine under him, and noticed that he was drooling/salivating. All I could do was just drop down on my butt and start crying. I thought I had killed my new little boy. Our floors are rather dark, and the room only has one window, so, given his black color now, I just didn't/couldn't see him. I have insisted on putting "house" Collars on my other two, which have Bells on them. I rely heavily on "hearing" where they are, but, Ickey was intolerant of the Collar, and I yielded and decided to let him get used to the Harness first, then "make" him wear the Collar. I finally gained my senses (<30 seconds), called the Vet, and he told me to bring him in. He was so calm, that it really helped me get myself together, and, I didn't know my SUV would run that fast ! They had their Emergency Room and staff waiting and I was beckoned right in, with the Vet standing there. GEES that made me feel good ! Lots of feeling of his body and legs, then off to X-Ray for two films, while I sat right there in the Room, watching them work on him. When they left the room for the X-Ray, I finally noticed a Lady looking at me from across the room. She was sitting in front of some cages, which were for Intensive Care for her Dog. I could tell, that she knew exactly how and what I was feeling. We didn't speak, but, it was so helpful to see that there was someone there, who really really understood my pain and anguish. Anyway, the Vet came out and said that there were no broken bones, and a lengthly reassurance that things would probably be ok. He prescribed a sedative called Rimadyl, and told me to give Ickey 1/8 of a tablet per day. I told him that I had a Pill Cutter, but I was so nervous, that I couldn't cut an Apple in half right now. That was just a little bit of humor I could come up with at the moment, no doubt from hearing a reasonably promising prognosis. I drove home (slowly this time) with Ickey in my lap. He seemed a little better, and when we got home, I gave him the Pill fraction and he slept for about an hour. When he awoke, he drank some Similac, and went outside with the Pack to Potty, going through the Doggy Door on his own as he had done before. It only took about 10-15 minutes out there, and he was moving around and even tried to chase Becca for a few steps. I checked on him several times last night, no problem since I couldn't sleep anyway, and when he woke up this morning, it was like nothing had happened. Spry, hungry and being a total Pest as usual. I often wonder, how can we can love these little guys so much, and the only answer I have is, we just do.
