| No, no , no... no hard food yet till they get their teeth are in good. She might not want to feed, but just put her in with the pups. They still need the milk and antibodies. They do not have their shots yet and need the mom's milk. You can start to wean now - but it must be soft food. I usually start to wean at about 5-6 weeks and feed soft can food of the kind of food the mom eats, this way their stomachs do not get upset. I add a little water to mke it easier to eat. I am still letting the pups nurse some and mine turn 8 weeks old tomorrow and mom lets them. But they are mostly on the soflt food and a little dry (small kibet) but only a little and only when I can watch them. I do not want them to choke! Best of luck with the pups and weaning. There are some good articles out there on how to wean. |

| Also, if you feed them hard food to early, they will have a hard time having a bowl movement and could injure themselves. Mom's milk is best. The other alternative is the milk from the pet store for newborn pups.....

| I hope Mamma has changed her mind as the pups are way too young for hard or soft food. At about 5 1/2 weeks I soften kibble with water (I NEVER feed canned food!) and mush it with a fork. They definitely still nurse from Mamma at this time. Every few days I lessen the softeness a little at a time until they are eating it hard. Again, I hope Mamma is nursing. If not, you will have to bottle feed them. Let us know, ok?

| I'm soooooo glad to hear that! Pfhew, what a relief! Check the skin on thier backs to see if it "tents" (stays in the tent shape after gently pinching it together with your thumb and index finger). It should ALWAYS go back down. If not, the pups are not getting enough to eat.
