I honestly do not believe that it will ever change. To many reputable show breeders have been burnt by people telling them exactly what they want to hear to get a dog from them. By the time the show breeder finds out what is going on it is usually to late. By that time the reputable show breeder has been burnt and will not offer a hand to help a novice and you cannot blame them!

I think you've "hit the nail on the head" with that one. In regards to the statement that "that is why people continue to be BYB's and breed less than standard dogs", or that basic jist.. I think that's a cop out, personally.. no one has held a gun to anyone's head that I'm aware of, and said YOU have to breed.

Oops I was butting out..lol sorry.. back to my corner.

well what about the show breeder that demands you MUST be their aid for months on end helping them groom and be their lacky outside the ring before they will sell them a dog, the promise goes on and on and on and then the day comes finally your puppy is born...BUT the show breeder decided to keep him/her for themself. Or what about the show breeder that promises next litter, then oops, OK next litter, oops still no puppy! Three years go by then what? Thank god this hasnt happend to me but I sure know of a few that it has.

I'd like to add that so many "pet" buyers have been burnt by reputable show breeders telling them exactly what a buyer wants to hear to sell them a Yorkie. However, said buyer receives a hyper, unsocialized nightmare! I have been burnt by a few over the years and some were on the YTCA list. Some were also on the liver shunt list as not standing behind their LS Yorkie.
I have only heard wonderful things about Prestigeous. I spoke to her last year but she had nothing available at the time, couldn't have been nicer. I wonder why this breeder was jumped on by other breeders, could it be jealousy?
I always avoid conflicting threads but I just got burnt last month with a Yorkie from a reputable show breeder and she burnt others on YT as well, some are breeders.

Believe you me you do NOT have to tell me that side of things! I have personally been burnt by more than one particular show breeder! After thousands of dollars later and a show dog with two grade 3 luxating patellas. My show prospect is now in a pet home and I am out of alot of money!

I will also add that Prestigeous does have beautiful yorkies, but I also have heard things and seen things that are not always reputable coming from them. And if most of the YTCA members did not believe in the ethics of YTCA I am sure a few of them would be posting a few negative comments to this thread. Just because you have not personally heard any negative about them it does not mean it is not out there.

You are right though they do have beautiful dogs.

I am not saying ALL show breeders are reputable, because they are not! But alot of them have trusted people with their hardwork only to find their hardwork has ended up in a BYB or puppymill situation. That may be why alot of them have you help them at the shows by grooming and whatever they feel might help you become a good show exhibitor. I personally wish I would of had someone like that when I first started showing, what a difference it probably would of been!

Kimberly is right,
I am one of the lucky one that has a Prestigeous girl, she is gorgeous, I have been taking her to conformation classes, hoping that someday soon I will be able to show her. The classes are more for me than her. I am the "Novice" that you are talking about. Deana trusted me with one of her girls, and I am going to do the best that I can to do right by her. Thanks again Deana.
I understand why you are so careful with your lines, but not all of us are going to turn around and stab you in the back.
I think that if you go back and read the ad, the dog she has posted is not from her breedings, he just didn't have the look they wanted, so is it wrong to post a dog for sale on this forum because it has CH lines, that it might be a great asset to someone elses family? What happened to the "breeders helping other breeders" Seems like all that some of you are doing is condeming.
Oh and by the way, back to the breeders helping other breeders, Yorkie Rose(FL) or DazzlinYT(TN) either one of you know of someone that lives somewhat near AL that would teach me proper show grooming-topknots, ect.
Unfortunatly WV is just to far for me to go at this time.

Default thoughts

When a dog does not work out from someone elses breeding..that is even more reason to be responsible and place it altered..unless you have permission from the breeder to do otherwise..I do not know that details of the orginial sale..perhaps the breeder does not care, so I will not comment on the sale any more.
I am sorry, I do not know any top knot experts in ALabama...but I can lend you a tape...PM me...

Starshine, I am always glad to help anyone.. I would be glad to teach you what I know as far as show grooming, but I don't know how much it would help you as I'm not really all that good at it. My topnots are a little scary..but they stay up long enough to go around the ring, LOL But absolutely, I am glad to help anyone learn, as long as I'm "qualified" to teach it!

Question I have one question......

If this forum is NOT a proper forum for "serious show people" then please tell me what is???? Most of us that are really sincere, honest "newbies" will search till our fingers are numb, for info regarding ANYTHING about showing or general Yorkie info....me especially. And I have seen many many websites of "Serious Show Breeders" advertising puppies for sale. In fact.....I have had many conversations with a YT(friend) about Show breeders posting puppy pics and request that you EMAIL them......then they never respond....then you call, they NEVER return the call.....so, what next.....going to their front door?????Is there a"protocol" that has to be followed? If so, tell me where to find it.......

First off......I don't fit into the forums for "show people" yet...
Second I can only bug Becki and others, so much for info about Yorkies, etc. LOL
Third, With my schedule, my research has to be on my time..not others.
Fourth And lastly, to think that someone can judge my sincerity by where I get Yorkie info, who I chat with, who I am nice to, who I smile at...who, who who.....and what boards I frequent.......if that is the case.......that is very sad.....

I will tell you all this......I like Yorkies, I like having friends.....and here.....its fun, period....I dont have to think of people(humans) being sick, having lymphoma, cancer, dying......all the topics I deal with every day in my job....

this a a release......I don't smoke.....

Sorry....I am rambling.....

If you're really being serious about wanting some help, I will be glad to do what I can to show you what I know, like I said, I am no pro, but I can teach you the basics of show grooming and handling, and would be glad to do so...however I'll warn you, I'm about 7 weeks away from delivering my 3rd child, and not very "mobile" right now..do you plan on attending the Knoxville show? If so, maybe we could get together then. My boy is out w/ a handler as I'm not in any shape to be showing him right now, but I am going to go to watch and cheer on some friends...so If you'll be there, we can get together.

Sweety Blues offers a wonderful video on how to do topknots and also one on show grooming. I own both of them and they are very helpful!
The link to the videos is below:

Good luck on your upcoming show girl!

I have shown since 99 I love the dogs~~~
And I have a wonderful group of Yorkie friends from all over the world, who I would have never met without the Yorkies in my life.
Its sad that also with this sport you have to take the good with the bad.
Thats with most anything in life worth doing or having.

If this forum is such a bad place with the classifieds why is everyone who takes a holier than thou attitude with me, a member of this forum ?? Thats a bit hypocritical isn't it? If you have your sites linked up here and your sig tags with all these pet people but yet a post for one for sale is awful! LOL
I just don't get the double standard way of thinking.
If you read the ad it states he is not from my breeding and he is available to a responsible show/breeder home (which a show home has him on hold) I do have people lined up for my upcoming litter. And my site is down right now under reconstruction so I could hardly place him there.
You still screen for your prospective homes no matter where someone found you don't you? We do~

Chris you have made us so proud, as you know we lost Izzys mom and it is extra special for us to watch Izzy blossom into such a lovely girl it is bittersweet. We are very happy with the care you have given her, you have been a dream to have part of our extended family~~
Wished we were closer.
