Advice on cost of puppy from "show" breeder

When I first called Pixie and Roxie's breeder, I was nervous having had some not so friendly conversations with show breeders in the past. Another breeder on her told me to call her she might have a puppy available. So I called her and we talked for 45 minutes before she even told me she had any puppies/dogs available. After asking me a lot of questions and having bought a yorkies years ago from a friend of hers ( I didn't know it at the time) she told me she had a 3 year old female that had been breed but was now retired or Pixie who was 13 months old and spayed as well. She said Pixie was 2500 and I said that was fine. Within 3 hours I went to her house to "see" Pixie and came home with her. My husband gave me the money and said take it with just in case lol! The breeder and I talk frequently to this day 5 years later. So you can have a great experience with the right breeder.

I think they expect everyone to be wealthy. If they are only looking for very affluent families to adopt their dogs, then they are missing out on loving homes elsewhere. I sure wouldn't discuss buying a dog without asking how much. I wouldn't pay a couple of thousand for an older dog even if I can afford it.

Patti - Cali is the absolute cutest thing I have ever seen. I am hoping to have a dog just like her - I am just crazy about her. I loved her "Montage" and her little story- so enjoyable

The initial cost is the cheap part, regardless what you pay. Broken leg surgery? 2500-3000, Kneww surgery? 2200, Pancreatitis? 700+ depending, Liver shunt? Surgery etc? A lot. Buy from a reputable breeder. Sometimes you pay more for quality.

This is so true....four knee surgeries in one year, $10,000 plus, this does not include routine vet care.
