hello. i am in the chicago area as well... have you searched on petfinder at all? also on the ebay classifieds i see several shelters and owners looking to rehome yorkies... sometimes the shelters do take time to get back to you so try not to get discouraged! back in october i adopted a 5 month old female puppy from a humane society in corydon, indiana. it was about a 6 hour drive from my home, but she is well worth it. she is absolutely perfect! her adoption fee was $450, she came to me spayed and had all vaccines except rabies. took to her to the vet the next day, she had kennel cough, fleas, tapeworms, and coccidia (parasites). had to recheck stool samples several times to ensure it was gone, give her several meds for it to go away, heartworm test/meds, frontline for fleas, then get her rabies vaccine. now she is almost 9 months old and is retaining her baby teeth and has to have them removed under anestesia. the dental itself is only around $150 but when you add in the preop testing, pain meds, iv fluids, etc i'm looking at around $350. so my 9 month old puppy has cost me all together around $1,400 and i've had her since october. yikes! they are so worth it though. there's no better companion than a yorkie!!! maybe you would be better off with an adult dog and could skip most of the puppy costs??? i really wish you all the best of luck. the right little girl is out there somewhere! i can't wait to hear that you found her. be persistent! i was the 10th person on a waiting list for pixie and was told several times not to get my hopes up that i probably wouldn't get her, but she was meant to be my little girl and i called every day to check if they had her and eventually i was next on the list! so don't give up! |

if your serious email PetMePetunia@rocketmail.com but by now you changed your mind? |
The sweetness of a low price quickly fades when you find yourself living in a vets office. Ask your local vet for a reference and keep checking your local pound twice a week. Your baby will likely be waiting right where you look for it. Manifest destiny and ask the desk person at the shelter to call you. Increase your shelter shopping to a nearby city. Think of it as a treasure hunt!! |

We bought our Winston from Memphisyorkies.com. Her and her sister are breeders, our breeder, Jan, is having to sell her home and all of her yorkies, she has a couple of adults left, they are beautiful, healthy, yorkies, she is definitely a quality breeder. I think she has a 4 year old little girl (and her yorkies are on the small side <5 lbs) for $300, that is just the cost for her to be spayed. She also has a male (our Winston's father) who is a beautiful yorkie and she tells us very lovey, he is getting neutered this week, not sure on her price for him, she was just selling them for the price of getting them fixed, which is a steel, because they are beautiful quality dogs, with no genetic history of health problems in her breeding line and beautiful thick coats. Contact her, there is a number on her website. She does not ship her dogs, so you would have to make a trip to get it..that might be a ways for you, but it's well worth it. |
I forgot to add her male is 17 months old (memphisyorkies.com) |
