14. Any additional information you want to add: Sadly I cannot keep Maggie. Some info about her...she is a sweat heart, very affectionate, loves to snuggle and be held. She gets attached quickly..so I'm sure she will attach to her new owner. She loves to give kisses. I am working on the paper training with her but like any puppy it takes time. I think she will be dark because both her parents are dark. I also think she will be little full grown...under 4 lbs. Any other questions feel free to PM me. (I also have pics of the parents)
So sorry for you both. I watched through your thread on Livie and how you came to own two pups at once. I too am freaking out as you are so close to me. But I am picking up my furbaby on Tuesday, so I don't think I am in a position to take her. I wish you much luck and happiness.

Love

She's really cute. I drove to New York to get my little Dunkin in June from a YTer. I'd love for him to have a buddy! Can you post pics of the parents?

I am curious as to why you would even ask such a questions! I don't really care what a vet. says, if you research the yorkie breed and the code of ethics as well as to the stages of the yorkie puppy, you will have your question answered. Momma teaches them very important social skills between the age of 10-12 weeks. These are skills that, that puppy needs to become a good adult. It bothers me that you have a hard time understanding why we keep them till 12 weeks!

I think I'm going to wait it out and see if things improve. She is a doll and I don't want to let her go. I'm gonna see how it goes. The breeder didn't want to keep her till 12 weeks...I asked if she could but she had already taken her away from momma, her littermate had already left too. She will be 11 wks on Monday.

According to the YTCA, specialists in the yorkshire terrior:
"All puppies leaving the breeders possession will be a minimum of twelve (12) weeks of age to facilitate adequate socialization as well as appropriate emotional and temperament development through interaction with siblings, dam and other dogs."

While I have a great deal of respect for vets, they are not specialized in the appropriate needs of one specific breed. Small breed puppies have entirely different needs than do large breed puppies.

Oh, and just to add...I am NOT a breeder.

My pot has been stirred and is boiling over!

From the AKC Website:

Quote:
Canine-behavior researchers have found that there are several crucial “socialization windows” in the first year—limited periods during which the pup is receptive to the lifelong benefits of exposure to new things. Of these periods, the earliest—the first 12 weeks of life—is the most critical. According to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB), sociability outweighs fear during this period, making it “the primary window of opportunity for puppies to adapt to new people, animals, and experiences.” This period is when the pup first learns to accept and enjoy the company of people, to behave appropriately around other dogs, and to experience the differing aspects of the world around him without fear.
Quote:
Thus it is essential that as a breeder you understand the importance of socialization. Although its benefits continue throughout (and beyond) the dog’s life, remember that the most critical socialization period ends at 12 weeks, so the bulk if not all of this most-vital groundwork is up to you.
Understand yet?

I am sorry that you going thru this. I know how excited you were when Livie and Maggie came home. My Maggie is very submissive and Hot Rod can be mean sometimes but my Maggie has learned to stand her own when she wants to. lol For some reason she attackes Hot Rod when he comes in the door from outside...to the point that sometimes he will walk backwards back into the laundry room!

And then she attacks everytime I am done brushing him out in the mornings...she full body jumps on him and makes a growling kinda noise. lol It's too funny. I am sure that you Maggie is just trying to find her way. Hope things work the way that you wish them to.

Awww...I'm sorry that things did not work out. Best of luck finding a home for this little fluffball.

Hmmm...search through the threads on here, particularly in the sick and injurred section. Ask some of the people who have had training and biting issues and have lost pups to low blood sugar because the pups were placed too young. I'm sure they'd love to give you their opinions on it. I wonder why a vet with 'years of schooling and education' would say a pup can leave as early as 6 weeks when that's not even legal in many states. Makes you wonder...I'll take the word of the breeder with 30 yrs experience over the fresh out of vet school professional any day in regards to this particular aspect.

Thank you for your very kind response. It was a simple question, I wasn't arguing with anyone regarding this. I can honestly say I was quite surprised with the hostility I received by asking such a harmless question. I simply have heard two separate arguments and was asking for opinions. I wasn't calling anyone wrong, I asked a question. I'm a little hurt and offended by some of your comments, you know who you are. I thought most of the reason for being on this forum was to learn and grow; that's what I'd hoped to accomplish by asking this, and that's the whole reason I'm now holding onto my girls until they are 12 weeks old too. I want what's best for them, but sometimes you have to ask questions to find out what is best. If anyone has an more ugly comments to make, PM me. Thanks again bonbon, I appreciate that.

Aw, I'm glad you guys are going to try and work things out. She is really cute! Maybe she just needs a bit more time with her fur-siblings to adjust. Good luck!
