WHy is it so hard to find a ***BLACK AND TAN*** yorkie i want to buy a baby yorkie that is black and tan when adult in the 4-5 lbs range the type with short legs and wide bodies they are so cute it seems impossible to find one... i live in the houston area and willing to drive up to 2.5 hours each way if you are a *REPUTABLE* breeder or know one please help :)) MErry Xmas!!:animal36:animal-pa |
I have never seen a black and tan adult Yorkie. They are black and tan when born but they change colors as they get older. Most of them have blue, tan, gold, silver blend as adults and some constantly keep changing until they are full grown. Oh...with the exception of one pictured Yorkie. She looks dark in color and is gorgeous but she is not the norm from what I've seen over the years. |
I have seen a black and tan adult a few different times. I think you just have to keep looking !! I perfer the darker coat as well. My puppy was really black until about a month ago and now is turning more blue/gray.. but I did love her dark coat! |

Mine turned 2 years old 01.Oct, and she is a cotton-coated black/tan coat. She still looks like a "teddy bear" puppy. Not sure why black/tan is undesirable, as she is gorgeous & still beautifully puppy-like. |

1 Attachment(s) My boy is black and tan. He has a wonderful coat and never matts. I can go longer without grooming him than most. He is 3 and I have never had to cut him. I have cut his topknot some just so I could see his eyes. He has a beautiful floor length coat. I don't consider it a cotton coat. This is not the clearest picture but all I have right now on this computer. Attachment 302979 |

My Murphy is black and tan and I think he has a modified coat. It's soft to the touch, definitely not silky, but he doesn't matt often. My Tate is also black and tan and he has never had a matt, or even a small tangle. I can go weeks without brushing him and he still never has a tangle. I wish all of mine had coats so easy to take care of! |

2 of mine have the black and tan and their coats are miserable to care for. The other one has a silky coat that is dark but has silver in it. I was just at a dog show in Chicago and you can sure tell a coat that is to the standard-beautiful!! |

Our Mistletoe was a classic black and tan... and just turned 2... her entire head is now tan/gold! Her puppies were classic black and tan but one of them (the male) grew "blue" all over his face and top of his head - just like his sire - which between 2.5 and 3 yrs old he also went entirely tan/gold on his head. It's really strange! The rest of their bodies are still classic black and tan but the heads are now completely tan... I'm wondering if there will be more changes coming! :) |
my little doggy was akc registered he was 3 and black and tan but the head hadalot of silver so cute cutest teddy bear face his hair wasssoft but wooly not silky he got compliments everywhere he went i dont like the silky terrier why is it impossible to find one that has wooly hair?! they are so much cuter. |

I think you'll find one. My Ariel is 1 now and she's still black and tan. She's a puppy I kept from my first litter. Her half sister is the same age and is almost completely black other than the tan markings she had as a pup. |
Oh, I so wish you were close to WV. My girl will be a 1 yr next mo and she is black & tan. He coat is wonderful, full but does not mat. She has little ears, short legs, close set eyes which gives the doll face and a wider back. She is 4.5 lbs. I spoke with a show breeder who saw her one day at a speciality pet shop and he said she is consider a soft silky, said they are unsual but nice coat to have. My breeder is like 4 hrs from me but so wonderful to work with, if I get another one, it would definately be from her. My friend is wanting one from my girl's mommy but has to wait for her next litter which will likely be July or August. |
2 Attachment(s) Here are pictures of the two I was posting about. first is Ariel and second one is Lily. Both are 1 yr. old. I won't have any litters till May or Aug. if you're interested. |
3 Attachment(s) Brooklyn is black and tan. I'm pretty sure she is going to stay dark. She is from the Durrer lines. She's just about five and a half months and currently 2 lbs. 5 ounces so I don't think she'll hit over 3 lbs. I'm not really sure what kind of coat she has. It is growing quickly though and it does not tangle but needs to be brushed daily or it will. I think if you keep looking you'll find what you are looking for. Elaine |

Oh you'll have to show me a picture of Ryder. Ann (Wylie's mom) has a little one that came from the same line too. I think her Marcel and my Brooke look very similiar. How old is Ryder? Brooke is almost five and a half months now. Also how big is Ryder? Brooke is 2 lbs. 5 ounces. I'm really thrilled with her. She was our first that we bought, all our others are rescues. I've wanted a little one like this since I was a little girl. Brooke was my xmas and anniversary gift combined. :) Elaine |
1 Attachment(s) You have to remember too that some yorkies do not break color until they are 2 or even 3 years of age. The ones I have seen break have a silky coat. I do believe that modified coats will break too. But the terrier rough coats or wolly/cotton coats tend to stay the black. Here is a photo of my neutered pet - he is black and has a wooly coat. What a mess it is to groom! Mats even when you just groom him, so I keep him clipped down now. He is now 11 1/2 years old and still looks about the same - except a shorter coat. We had him neutered when he was young since we knew his coat and color was not to standard and did not want to breed for this. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is one more of him. He is a dear and such a sweetie. |
Two of mine that I breed are steel blue. Then one is silver and blonde. But the mix of their coats makes them throw dark pups with semi coarser coats. Duchess throws black pups with just tan markings or very light tan. Ariel and lily are going on two this year and usually you can see the hair closest to the skin if you see the blue coming through. Theirs you don't see any. I don't breed for it it just comes. They're just happy healthy pups and their families Love it! |
